We stayed for one night in a double room on Saturday 24 May 2008. We used to live in Wakefield and we chose the hotel for its central location as it is in the city centre and a five minute walk from the railway station. Having read the other reviews we were a bit apprehensive, however we find it fine for an overnight stay and experienced no problems. The service was fine when we checked in. Our room was on the third floor and was quite large with ensuit bathroom with shower over bath. The room was in a reasonable condition, although the decor was a bit dated, it was clean and tidy apart from a stained shower curtain. We were out most of the time but when we returned in the evening we did not find it noticably noisey and were able to sleep. The hotel has a restaurant, bar and function rooms. We did not use these facilities and we did not eat at the hotel so I am unable to comment on these facilities. I noticed signs that there was some refurbishment going on one one of the floors.I would stay at this hotel again for its convienence of location.

I have never stayed in a worse hotel, I use hotels almost every week in my work and have never refused to pay before.
I arrived very late on Sunday evening, was put in one room where there was a fight outside the window and the window wouldn't close properly, so I asked to be moved to another, which the guy on reception did straight away. (I must say he seemed to find the fight amusing)
However the next room was appalling, the smell was terrible, and had it not been very very cold outside i would have slept in the car. As it happened I managed to get a few hours sleep on top of the quilt, fully clothed. The smell was terrible and as soon as daylight appeared I left and found another hotel.
It transpires they use the hotel to house the homeless of Wakefield.
Take my advice use another hotel, not this one.
Shabby, very smelly, only suitable for drunk stag nights.

i stayed in this hotel before and it was horrible, but supposedly its been bought out by a large group and i must admit they have done wonders with the place. with my work im travelling alone, with my laptop constantly on use so when i was told i had to stay here bad memorys took over. however when stepping into the hotel, the reception looked like it belonged to a 4* hotel, although smaller, looked the part. Also i noticed hey have a new bar lounge area to relax in, which i must say is beautiful, it had a nice atmosphere on the first night, not to busy but just right and on the second a different sort of atmosphere which was nice. i then made it up to the room. the hotel was still being refurbished biut i couldn't notice, the room was clean and really different. furniture was new and one wall (feature wall was painted a warm colour) compared to the old room i stayed in this was heaven! also it was dead cheap compared to other hotels i've stayed in the area and even better is as i was leaving i was told if you book on the hotels website direct, it is even cheaper hooray!

Typical 60s small tower block hotel, feeling a bit tired & naff despite the refurbishment. New decor (depending on taste) is a bit tacky - 'glitzy' neon lights in the bar, laminate wooden floors in the bedrooms and a very strange mock chrome 'grab bar' along the bed head... nice! Had the same experience as a previous reviewer with noises through thin bedroom walls... and the 1960s lift with painted-over etched graffiti on the door has to be seen! The free wifi was not working on my floor during my stay and the lad on reception could not have been less interested. Breakfast, whilst served with a smile, was flaccid salty bacon, tinned mushrooms & tomatoes fayre. Next time in Wakefield will try to find somewhere with a bit more charm.
