Our group had several rooms in this historic hotel. Some had kitchen/lounges separate from the bedrooms, mine had a kitchen overlooking the bedroom.
The room was spacious, well equipped, very clean and a good sized comfortable bed. The kitchen had an enormous fridge, a large cooker, microwave and kettle, it was also well stocked with plates, cutlery, glasses, mugs, etc.
Whilst not as grand as some of the other hotels on Main Street, the Jarvis Suite was much cheaper, located along the railway tracks of the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway and within walking distance of the train station.

This Place Was AMAZING. Our suite had a living room with a bedroom and a kitchen right in the heart OF HISTORIC DURANGO DISTRICT. The Staff WAS VERY VERY FRIENDLY AND it came with breakfast AND FREE LAUNDRY AREA TO wash up your clothes. GREAT for families with children...LOVED IT!!!!

This hotel is in a great location right in town and next to the train tracks. The service is friendly and responsive. We had a bi-level suite with loads of room and full kitchen and it was excellent value, clean and nicely decorated. We had a three week trip in Colorado and this was the nicest place we stayed - highly recommended.

Very old building, so I feared a musty smell. Nothing-- smelled like a new building :) Great space, very clean, great front desk and homemade cookies set out at 6:30 in the evenings. Close to the downtown, so can walk to dinner, train station, etc. Great continental breakfast as well. Perfect!

PRO: The rooms are converted one bedroom apartments, so they have everything you need in the kitchen. You can buy groceries -- there is a full size fridge. The hotel provides pots, pans, plates, silverware, dish soap (and a dishwasher), and tea towels.
You can use the commercial laundry.
Great location downtown.
Chocolate chip cookies at night (but they are hard after 30 minutes, get them while they're hot).
CON: The mattresses were some of the worst I have ever slept on in a hotel. They need to be replaced. The pull out (we stayed in one bedroom suite) mattress was only suitable for a very small child.
Next door, there is a bar. It stays open late some nights. The windows are old and let too much noise in.
Summary: OK for families, but great otherwise.
The continental breakfast is nothing to shout about but it is adequate.
We would probably stay in another hotel or motel to the north. The town looked pretty safe -- we didn't see any seedy areas near the other hotels. My wife liked the location. I would only stay there if the mattresses were replaced.
