We stayed in room 22, do not stay in this room, it has ANTS everywhere!!! There was a big trail of them above our bed head and going all the way up the wall to the otherside of the room where the complimentary biscuits were. Somehow they had got into them and they started attacking some of the food we left on the bench.. we ended up putting everything in the fridge to get rid of the threat.
Besides the Ants, the room was dark, smelt a little and stains on the bed sheets. The bathroom was old, but the shower was fantastic! A lot of pressure and the best shower we had on the whole NT road trip.
Location wise, the motel is decent, 3 blocks from main Katherine shops/restaurants and the closest turn off is the road that goes directly to Katherine Gorge. The pool is nice, but laundry facilities are a little drab, the dryer does not switch off by itself.
We never tried the restaurant food, you have to book in advance. There aint a lot of restaurants in Katherine, whilst we were upset at missing out on a cooked meal, We went to a thai take away place on the main highway (really small place) were the lady makes the food in the morning and re heats it, but it was so nice!!
Also, be aware that you cannot get booze in Katherine (except in larger quantities) after 6 pm..

Hmmmm.. Katherine doesn't have a lot to chose from but this would not be my choice again.. Tired, dirty, basic and bad about sums it up. BBQ by the pool was ok but that's about the only positive thing to say about the Pine Tree !!

No luxury, but spacious rooms, friendly staff. The standard is okay we liked the place and recommend it. Especially if you consider the alternatives in Katherine.

In most respects this is an average mid to lower end motel. Problem is the rooms smell. It's a standard old motel smell, which we think must be some sort of air freshener they put in those ancient air conditioners. Overpowering I almost couldn't breath and I don't have lung problems. For heavens sake don't consider using the air conditioner to help clear the smell you'll just make it worse. No I wouldn't stay here again.
Second night there was a man wandering the car park (ie outside your room) yelling. Woke me a couple of times, hubby reported that it was actually every half hour. Don't know if it was a guest or a random wandering dero. If in Katherine again I'd be going for one of the places that has a more isolated / secure compound.
I would eat here again though. The food was simple unpretentious fare, the roasts were the best of what we had. Indeed we had the chicken roast both nights. Plentiful and varied accompanying vegetables. 8 different kinds no less. Just the thing when you've been on the road for a while and just want a basic meat and veges dinner well prepared.

One of the best in town

Katherine is a small place, with a limited number of hotels and motels. We'd booked into a different little motel, but returned the key after seeing the room (and seeing the strange green beetle things crawling over the duvets). So the Best Western was just marvelous in comparison. The room was your standard fare, but perfectly acceptable - shower and no bath. There was a restaurant but it was operating limited hours during the Wet, so we ventured into town for a pizza. The hotel pool was small but attractive - we wished we had more time for a swim. There's a little travel agents in the hotel, which was very handy - we booked our tickets for the Katherine Gorge cruise there.
The parking was free, too - the usual space right outside the room.
