On June 19 my husband and I went to Freeport, Bahamas. The trip was great!
We stayed at the Island Palms Hotel; the hotel was nice, the people were friendly and helpful. The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. The restaurant food was good, and prices quite moderate. The pool was really nice!
I must say that we will be taking the same trip again, and hopefully we will be staying at the Island Palm Hotel again. I also have to thank everyone at ASI for their help and understanding on behalf of us travelers who have never taken a vacation like this before. Since you have made it so easy, I have planned my next years vacation already!

Not a bad place to stay considering the price you pay. But boring!
The one thing that was very annoying is that when you get out of your cab, they push you to the restaurant for drinks to fill out paperwork for timeshare. I read other reviews and they say just say no and walk briskly to the lobby to check in. Well you can't. They tell you that they have your reservation paper work in the restaurant and you can't go straight to the lobby. They actually force you to the restaurant. So people beware! They have another resort called Island Seas and thats where they take you for the presentation. They do give you free breakfast and free t-shirts and credit towards dinner, but its not right to push that upon us. However, we did not go to the presentation. They called our room to ask us if we were going, but we said we had a tour of the island to go on. They said to please reschedule, but we didn't. Although you can use the facilities of their other resort for something to do. They also charge you some kind of island tax per person upon arrival.
I consider the Island Palm a motel with a pool. The place was clean and the staff was very friendly. The maid service was slow. They come in your room in the am and take your towels and then come back about 2pm to make up the room and bring new towels. Other people we met there said they had a problem with their room, but I guess we were lucky because our room was fine. You get what you pay for.
But there was nothing to do there. You can catch a bus to go out, but you have to walk about a half mile to catch the bus, which is only $1.00. This hotel is not really located near anything- well not in walking distance. The closest place was KFC about a half mile, thats where you get the bus. Then there is a Wendys next to KFC. Then about a long 2 blocks from Wendys is a Burger King.
The island of freeport and Lucya was boring. If you have money to do the tours and snorkeling and dolphin swimming, then you have something to do. All the shops sell all the same items.
Island Seas is on the beach, I would say that would be the better place to stay for activities. Otherwise in my opionion, I would not stay at the Island Palm again only because of nothing to do. Its an ok place if you just want to hang out at the pool and relax.

My fiance and I were given the Discovery Sun trip to the Bahamas by his mother as a gift. It was a great deal, at first, until I realized this 'gift' ended up costing us close to $600! I could've paid that much for a real cruise! (I still love her, though!) The people at the hotel were thee rudest people I have ever dealt with in my life. Not 1 person smiled at us the whole time we were there. Tourism is their number one industry?!? Maybe they should be friendly and act like it! I understand gratuity is included, but if any of the waitresses were friendly, they would've found that we tip more than 15%!
I knew the hotel wasn't on the beach - which was fine since they had a shuttle to the Island Seas resort. However, there is nothing to do near the hotel. Unless you like Burger King, Wendy's, or KFC. And taxis to Port Lucaya cost $10 - $13 each way (for 2 people). Since there is nothing to do by us, we ended up spending over $100 in taxis and we were only there for 4 days.
The maid service was terrible. I had left a tip the first day we had the room cleaned while my fiance and I left to go snorkeling. I had forgotten something up in the room and ran back up about 3 minutes after we left and found that the maid had already taken the money but hadn't cleaned!? Was she watching to see when we left?!? Then, when we got back, the only cleaning done was new towels. Didn' t make our bed or anything. But I understand why since she left her nail polish on our bathroom sink, my make-up bag had been gone through, and there was nail polish on our wash cloths. She was probably too busy making up herself to clean.
The pool was fine as well as the bar/snack area. But again, just terrible service.
Also, we had them book a snorkeling tour through Pat and Diane's. We had to pay a $14 deposit and then the rest when we go there. Turns out the lady filling out the form couldn't add - it was supposed to be $35/person - but she charged $40/person. But since she had written we owed $66 instead of $56, we had to pay the extra $10.
I would never stay here again, not even if it was free.

Let me first say "to each his own". I recently visited Freeport and had the chance to stay at the Island Palm for 4 days and 3 nights. While the property is not located near the beach or local shops, they do provide a shuttle service to transport travelers to the Port Lucaya area where shopping and dining are available, and to their sister property the Island Seas Resort. Myself and a couple of old college buddies made the trip through my friends company discounts and had a good experience. Some of us brought our ladies or wives and yes we were approached by people wanting to send us on timeshare tours, but we had our own agenda and let them know politely that there was no interest. Timeshare is a part of the travel industry, and I've come to recognize it even in Orlando, FL, where you'll see signs regarding 2 for 1 tickets to Disney or even "Free tickets". We had an easy time checking in, and simply let them know once we looked over the info that we were not here for that, they let us go to our rooms.
The facility is clean, food was decent, but this is coming from a vegetarian, so again "to each his own". Rooms were spacious, and although the shuttle does stop around 6 or so and the local bus service seizes after sun-down, the taxis are helpful and cost the same as if you were in the states. We have to remember they import all goods, and they feel the same pressure we do from the high gas prices. Overall we had a great stay and I feel this because we were told this is a good value, not a 4 or 5 star property and that it was not on the beach but had the shuttle. We had a great experience and look forward to returning. Now I must admit, next time will be at the Island Seas Resort...nice beach, jacuzzi and great staff!
Good price, fun pool, shuttle to a great beach

My friends and I stayed at the Island Palm last week for our Spring Break, and the Bahamas were awesome! The hotel was great; the rooms were BIG, and the pool was great. We bought beer and snacks at the stores close by, and the pool bar/snack bar was fun at night.
The staff booked the Robinson Crusoe trip for us (GREAT!), and the hotel shuttle to the beach was convenient. The beach and the pool bar at the beach were both great, and we went over to Port Lucaya one night.
The Island Palm was a good price; we had friends who stayed at Our Lucaya who paid three times what we did (and their resort taxes wer higher!), and food prices at Our Lucaya were nuts.
For food there were several reasonable places at the Lucayan Marketplace, and we laid in snack foods. We took the Discovery cruise to the Bahamas, and the food was good on the ship. Unfortunately, the slot machines weren't, and I was broke by the time we got off the ship.
The Island Palm was fine and a good value, and the Bahamas was a lot of fun.
