just spent a few days in the xelena, and to be honest i have nothing bad to say about this hotel. there are certainly a few things which could be improved on, but they aren't the ones that matter most.
To start with the positives, the rooms are clean, comfortable and big enough. The service is impeccable, and the people at the main desk were incredibly helpful and nice. The Spa/pool was lovely, and after a day on or around the glaciers, wonderfully hot and relaxing, and the little outdoor bit of the pool is great to float around and look at the lake.
for the negatives, nothing major, but i think they could make an effort with their restaurant as it was a bit disappointing from a menu perspective, but i suppose there are so many restaurants in town that they probably feel it's not the most important thing to deliver. and the other small negative is the noise the curtain engine makes when being opened and closed, which when you have a late start, you can hear all the curtains being opened at around 630, 7am which certainly was enough to wake me up.
all in all, lovely hotel. we really enjoyed our stay there

This was out of town but its only a $5 cab ride or a twenty minute walk. Very nice rooms and excellent laundry service. Great views over the lake and a good spa facility with pool. Designed into the hillside the architect may have got the layout slightly upside down as the public rooms did not enjoy any of the views but that said the rooms benefit. Excellent staff and very helpful. Fresh breakfast and tasty lunch. We did not dine but the quality of the meals we did have was good. Reasonably priced but as the road to the hotel was unmade and the ever present wind, meant that sitting outside was impossible and wearing clean clothes a waste of time.

We just returned from our Patagonia vacation. We stayed at the Xelena hotel for three nights and generally enjoyed this hotel. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and chocolate upon our arrival. We had to switch rooms due to being put in a room with 2 beds rather than one king and the wind was howling through the windows. The new room was clean but needed some caulking and detail work. It had a nice view of the lake. A bottle of champagne and chocolate were supposed to be in our room (as per our reservation), but it took three requests to the staff over two days to actually make it happen - missed it for my husband's bday. The pool was open - small but warm and refreshing. We ate in the restaurant one night - it was good. Taxis were accessible and the shuttle runs every hour in/out of town until 10pm. But, if we were going to do it again, we would have stayed closer to town. It's a nice hotel, but not worth over $200/night.
