Booked two nights at the murano for a weekend away recently. Had to cancel that particular trip immediately due to work commitments. Was charged ?600 anyway and when I rang to enquire, a succession of rude and ignorant staff said 'yes, and?' until one finally said 'You booked and cancelled. It is 20 days till you get a refund. this is normal'. Really?!? No other hotel I've ever known has done that, they may charge a deposit but they'll ask you first - and frankly, I think it's dishonest not to. And 20 days till they refund you?!? And there was no apology, nothing. Utterly appalling customer service. Was going to return to the hotel for a weekend away at later date but not now - but not now!!!

i am very disappointed about the reviews that i've read because i enjoyed very much staying in the hotel...maybe other people are very, very picky..but trust me,the hote, the restaurant, the bar are just perfect....although the stuff is very young the services that they provide are excellet, la cuisine est formidable....congratulations to the chef, Antoine Perray.

This hotel puts its design agenda so much front and centre that it's hard not to judge the design rather than the hotel itself.
As a hotel, it seems to work pretty well. I've only spent one night and am about to spend my second, but the room service came on time and was pleasant, the concierge was very helpful. As for the staples I find important: the window opened, the bed was fine and the internet connection was free and worked (though not brilliantly if you're streaming radio content).
Then again, the fancy flatscreen tv came on spontaneously at 6.30am, waking me up much earlier than I wanted. And it came back on at 7am just as I'd got back to sleep. I had to disassemble part of the fascia to rip out the power cable (at the hotel's suggestion) and get some much needed sleep. Oh, and the shower leaked and had a broken tile in its surround.
These reservations can seem a bit mundane compared to the fingerprint-sensing door opening, the colour-changing lighting system and the (revolting!) black toilet paper. But how much these things thrill you will depend on who you are.
Personally, I find the complete absence of natural light from the hallway and staircase miserable. Do you really want to sit in your hotel room bathed by the light from a pink bulb? Are silver curtains that look like offcuts from the Barbarella set on your list of priorities? And there's only one way out which isn't great from a fire-safety point of view.
Being surrounded by so many design ideas can be oppressive. As with the over-designed Joseph hotel in Prague, the constellation of plasticky design pieces makes for a somewhat uncomfortable feel.
I prefer a mix of materials and some interplay between the hyper modern and more organic or traditional forms. In a city like Paris it seems a shame not to include any 18th or 19th century elements to offset the 1960s-meets-noughties look. The design overkill means that, though it nods towards modernism and minimalism, this is really a baroque place at heart. But it's vacuum-formed baroque. Whether you'll love it will depend on whether you like your bedside tables in white plastic.
Stylish!

I too was a bit worried about previous reviews, but I found the staff to all be charming and very helpful. The room (Carlo, one up from the basic) was very comfortable although pretty small,I was quite glad I was on my own. I thought they could have made the stone floor with underfloor heating but having said that the heating in the room was very efficient. I was woken the first night with the television coming on on its own, twice - the 2nd night I turned everything off with the over-ride switch which solved this problem. Paris is expensive but I dont think I have ever paid 20 euro for a cocktail before! I had a great stay but might look for somewhere in the Marais district next time for a change.
