This was our second stay at the Kulm. We booked two rooms, a double and triple. The setting is exceptional. The hotel is situated high above the Mediterranean - you travel through a park setting for over a mile. Our triple was small for three adults - the hotel upgraded this room on the second night, when a larger water- view room became available. Breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the bay of Portofino below. Breakfast included a full range of breads, yogurt, cereals, some fruit and one type of meat/cheese. Juice and your choice of coffees available - included in the price. Hotel provides shuttle service to the sister hotel on the water (Cenobio dei dogi).
Towns nearby include Camogli and Recco which have a good choice of restaurants. A good place to stay if you visit Cinque Terre.
We drove to Sestri and took the train from there. Frequented more by Europeans/Italians which we liked.

A beautiful hotel with amazing views in a peaceful and pretty setting.
You definately need your own transport as although the hotel run occasional bus shuttles their timings are not spot on.
Ask for a room with the view, as the rooms at the back are pretty dark whereas the front rooms are very pretty.
Beppe on reception was very helpful and his English was embarrassingly good, however the bar staff and waiters were quite rude.
Indoor pool is a little suspect and very high in chlorine, but all in
all a great hotel for a quiet location with great views.
