We have stayed at the Danieli twice. We chose the Danieli for our wedding and for a few reasons. Firstly, the location is excellent. Secondly, it has a beautiful entrance hall and lobby. Thirdly, the food in the restaurant was good and they were catering our reception in a private dining room. The hotel was the setting we wanted. We are used to staying in 5 star hotels in Italy and they can either be newly refurbished or old and shabby. They are mostly old and shabby and the rooms at the Danieli are definitely in that category, but that is just the way it is in Italy. We are also used to Italian service which is usually not fantastic, but since we had not had any major problems there previously, all the other pros outweighed that. We had a fantastic wedding and many of our guests who stayed there also had a good experience. Breakfast is very expensive, but there are plenty of cafes in the area instead. Service was fine and the food was excellent. We will return for a future anniversary.

Hotel Danieli deserves its reputation as the top hotel in Venice. It is especially suitable for those who enjoy an elegant and prestigious ambience and who appreciate culture, history and antique furnitures and fittings.
The hotel is in a great location, right next to St. Mark’s Square and opposite the piers. It cannot be more convenient as it even has its own private landing for boats.
The roof-top Restaurant Terrazza Danieli offers excellent Italian cuisine, good service and a fantastic view of Venice. Dining there is a memorable experience.
The Danieli is no doubt one of the best hotels in the world and is strongly recommended to anyone who wants the best in Venice.

Well, this place is old what can I say. The rooms were nice, clean... but very old - plaster walls cracking, old furnishings. Some of the lower floors are like something out of the Shining... a little creepy but fun to go and spook yourself (they keep the lights dim or off and its empty). They gave us free bottles of wine which was nice.
The breakfast, although it costs about $70US was worth it just to sit on the Terrace as the view is unbelieable.
The location is great but I actually would have preferred it to be set back from the main drag a little. You walk out of the hotel into a mob of 10,000+ it is a bit hectic.

Liked hotel, but ask for room in "original pink building"

Liked this hotel for the most part. TERRIFIC location in the heart of everything, great lobby, nice room, large closet, helpful staff. However, I did not know before I booked here that the hotel is actually two separate buildings. The "pink building" is apparently the original and has been renovated. Our room was in the "white building" next door which is connected by a ramp on the second floor. I knew the hotel was old and was looking forward to the "old world feel" of it, however for the room price ($1394/night), a 35 year old bathroom isn't quite acceptable. While I would still recommend the Danieli because of its other pluses, DEFINITELY request a room in the renovated building!! Enjoy Venice - it's wonderful.
