This was our first visit to Paris and we stayed in the Astor for 3 nights.
The staff were friendly and attentive, spoke very good English and nothing seemed too much trouble. Dennis, the Concierge, was fantastic; his knowledge of Paris and his ability to obtain a taxi from nowhere was superb.
On the downside, we found the room quite small (an 'Astor' room) and we only had a shower. Had we been staying for longer, we would have requested a room change as we do like to have a soak! The shower was good both for power and temperature however, there was nowhere to put your soap or shampoo etc. A small point but annoying none the less!
The location seemed perfect for us. Most places just a short walk and a Metro station (St. Augustin) nearby.
The location was quiet; we slept with our window open and heard nothing.
The buffet breakfast was reasonable though not outstanding.
Prices in the bar are not the cheapest.
Room service was very fast and the housekeeping staff, friendly.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in July 2007, the location was great, the hotel it self was friendly.
The decor was simple but decorative, and minimalistic, it was great.
The bedrooms were a little small, but then we were only sleeping there.
The hotel restaurant was a little pricey, but we were recommended by the Bar Person a really nice restaurant just around the corner (Bofinger).
Would stay there again.

Bad rooms, badly kept. Disgusting service.

I was looking to find a nice hotel, different from the average where to spend some good time with my wife.
After booking through an agent ( 'Superbreak' really, DON’T use this agent if you want to have a good experience), I arrived to the hotel at the entrance I was barely welcomed. Never seen these people before in my life but seemed already very rude.
I was given a very, very small room (this was sold as 'luxury'), stains of coffee on the wall, stains on the chairs, broken shower, broken side-table.
I asked to be moved, they could only upgrade my staying (for ‘free’, I was amazed) to a better room that was more spacious:
stains on the 'otherwise-beautiful' chairs, broken wardrobe drawers.
In the morning I open the door – my wife wanted to try the room-service:
The waiter just walked in, nearly walking over me, my wife just outside the bed looking for the slippers (she was embarrassed).
I couldn’t believe it.
Not worth it, definitely not worth it.
And all this for the modest amount of $300+ a night.
After protesting with the manager I was given a free upgrade next time I would have visited the hotel, but unfortunately this hotel and its ‘crew’ had already ruined my experience in Paris.
Astor Saint Honore will never see me again.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and would definitely stay here again. The staff were, without exception, friendly and helpful. There was a good choice of food at breakfast and the room was clean and adequately sized for 3 people. We stayed in a triple de-luxe room and the bed was huge and extremely comfortable. At first there were a couple of niggles - some of the floor tiles in the bathroom were loose and the roll-away bed for our daughter was placed in front of the wardrobe which made access rather awkward. Also, we were only given towels, cups, glasses, etc., for 2 people, but when the chambermaids knocked on our door early in the evening, we pointed this out and they sorted it out quickly and politely. I only mention this to give an honest view, but the plus points exceeded the minuses.
The concierge was knowledgeable and spoke good English, as did most of the staff.
Our room was at the back of the hotel, overlooking a courtyard, and was very quiet. I can't comment about rooms at the front, but the area is generally quite quiet. This area isn't in the heart of things, but is only a 20 minute walk from the Louvre and maybe a 10 minute walk from Printemps department store and other shops. There is a small supermarket just around the corner which is useful for water and snacks. I would say that the location is adequate if you are prepared to walk to bus and metro stops.
To sum up - highly recommended.
