We went to stay at this hotel end of March 2008. We paid 70 DH from the airport in a petit taxi. Our first impressions from the outside and reception area, were that it looked quite nice. It is spacious, the decor in the these areas appeared a little dated but it looked well maintained.
However, having gne to our room we were very dissappointed. We paid 247, pounds for 6 nights, which is cheap in price, but nonethless, the room was very depressing. It was minimal in decor, which can normally be a good thing, but the fact was that unlike the reception and communal areas the room was poorly maintained, it looked like they had not updated anything since the 1970's when it was originally built. I would describe the room as shabby / tatty. For example in the passage ways and hotels you could see where they had fixed cracks and shabbily re-cemented between the wall and the floor tiles.
We did have a nice view of the pool, from the balcony, but the room next to ours was overlooking the street and hotel Hicham, so we were quite lucky.
The hotel is well located in the Gueliz district, lots of places to eat and shop. Hotel is in a relatively modern area with names such as Zara, Etam, Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut a 5 minute walk. The Djmaa El Fna Sqaure is a 25-30 minute walk. It was pleasent walk in the late afternoon when the sun was less hot.
It is quite a straightforward route , to the square and Koutobia mosque but
bewarned the roads can be very chaotic and you do risk life and limb when crossing these sometimes! However you do get used to these.
Haggling is normal and be prepared to get ripped off! Practice does make it easier and lots of places sell the same things. We found Marrakech to be quite commercial and tourist based, lots of French Nationals appear to enjoy it as a holiday destination.
We took an excursion to the cascades d'Ouzoud. We definately got ripped off paying 900 DH for a private car and driver. Initially we thought it was an OK ish kind of price. However when we got there, the driver colluded with a local " tourist Guide" and stated we should have a guide as he couldnt show us around?!
On hindsight we should have clarified with excursion company what we were actually paying for as we felt a bit duped. The Excursion company had said that we would be driven to the cacades, but we didnt think this would mean just laft near the car park and expected to make our own way around the sights and village?! I dont think we should have paid more than 400-500 DH for two of us.

My wife and I stayed in the hotel at the end of October for a 5 night break . The hotel is about 4 km from the airport and a taxi will cost you anywhere between £6 - 8 depending on how much you want to haggle.
Its based in the new part of Marrakesh , which we found fine . It only costs £0.60p in a small 'petit taxi' to get to the old town and 5 mins drive so its hardly a burden.
The hotel is clean but obviously its best days are behind it , bit like me ! The reception has safety deposits for free and I'd recommend sticking your passports etc in there to be safe. Bedroom was clean , plenty of hot water for showers , TV has one english language channel -BBC World. The pool area is a bit of a concrete expanse without much character but we weren't bothered since we were out exploring every day. Breakfast is pretty boring but fine to fuel up for the day - buffet of orange juice, croissants, morrocan pancakes, cake, tea and the strongest coffee on the planet .
We ate out every evening and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby and also a major supermarket . We found one of the best eating places of the holiday just round the corner - its called Madame Porte cafe and serves morrocan food , pizzas at half the price of every where else and they tasted better .
Turn left out of the hotel entrance , go to the mobil garage 200m away and take the left street , pass a flash italian called Trattoria and its just a bit further on your left - superb!
So overall , the hotel is fine for a budget holiday , if you've only paid £300 quid you can't expect the Ritz . Staff were fine to us.
