We just LOVED the Grand Hotel Minerva!! We stayed there for 4 nights at the end of August 2005. We travel with our 3 daughters and it's always hard to find a hotel in Europe with a family room that fits 5. Grand Hotel Minerva has a fabulous family room. It is 2 levels with 2 bathrooms and has so much room you can't believe it! The king bed is on the main floor and there is a bedroom upstairs with 2 twin beds and then an alcove with one more additional bed. We paid 300 Euros per night which included tax and breakfast for all 5 of us. I think it's 400 Euros during the "on" season. We paid less because the end of August is considered off seaon. The weather in August was so much better than we expected. I thought it was going to be so hot and humid, but it was warm - in the 80's - and very pleasant. I booked this hotel not only for the family room, but for the wonderful rooftop pool.

The hotel was well appointed with modern upgrades and is in a quiet area, but very close to all the main sites in Florence. Our room was extremely comfortable, although we had difficulty getting the air conditioning to cool us down enough. The staff were exceedingly pleasant and helpful.

Just on a whim picked this hotel and it was great. tho we had a deluxe room - with no view (watch out for this...) the upside was that it was dark for sleeping and quiet. not planning on spending much time in the room, i didn't bother making noise about it. The room was very comfortable - and quite nice sized. we did not eat b'fast there as it was 30E--$$$.
loved being right near the pantheon and the square in front of it. i had my food allergic child with me and there is a nice grocery right off the square which was very handy for us.
the a/c worked great in the hotel --
the staff was very helpful.
roof bar quite $$ - 9E for a soda...but lovely.
for a/p car service used bob's limo and it was great and much less than the hotel offered rate.
had trouble recharging some electronics and concierge came up w/his personal transformer which finally got things going.
but a lovely lobby to sit in-truly grand-and a very nice place to stay. almost stayed near the spanish steps and was very happy to not have put ourselves in the midst of the fray. this hotel is about a 10min. walk to the steps and also near to the trevi fountain, piazza navona, etc, etc. a great location in other words. i felt after agonizing w/too much info, i picked just the right spot.
