Hotel is great, only inconvenience is being far from city centre, but they do have a shuffle that takes you downtown on scheduled times. Just be at the bus stop of the Hotel?s shuffle with antecipation cuz it can have more ppl than allowed cuz of bus size and u cannot get in the bus. Hotel in general very good, nice pool in front of the beach, beach in front of the hotel with hotel?s bar and restaurant in it. Great Breakfast, complete and typical. Nice rooms, nothing too luxurious but nice and clean. I?d rather stay downtown next time to not need to wait for shuffle time and if it?s crowded or not... you have more freedom when u r near things.... also city is VERY DANGEROUS so u cannot walk in many parts of it late at night or get a cab or a bus anywhere u are... Fortaleza is one of the most dangerous cities in Brazil so be carefull. If u wanna rest, this hotel is a great option, u can just stay in the hotel and enjoy the pool, gym club, take a walk in the beach just in front, eat in the hotel?s restaurants....

I attended a conference in Fortaleza, Brazil and the conference was being held at Hotel Vila Gale. Thus, it was an obvious choice for me to stay there.
Pros:
+ Spacious rooms
+ Great variety of food (including local delicacies) for breakfast
+ Reasonable price
Cons:
- Poor sound isolation in rooms
- Not extremely hygienic and clean
- Far from the city
It is difficult for me to pass a definitive judgment about this hotel as I am not aware of the standards in Brazil. The hotel claims to be a 5 star and there is a sign at the entrance which shows that this is verified by the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism. Hence, I am tempted to conclude that this is about the best you can get in Fortaleza. I would give it _at most_ 4 stars when judging by the European standards, though.
The hotel is at the outskirts of the city, located in front of "The Future Beach", which is apparently the most convenient beach in Fortaleza. The area is not very safe, so you cannot take a long walk. The vicinity seems to be guarded by the police, however.
The rooms acoustics are poorly designed and you can easily hear people moving in the corridors.
The facilities are fine, although it could be cleaner and more hygiene. If one is careful and picky, s/he may find unpleasant things like darker spots on the towels or signs of insect on some walls.
As almost everywhere else in Brazil, hardly anybody speaks English fluently. Also at the reception desk, you may have to repeat what you want a number of times to get the message through!
To summarize, I think Vila Gale is a reasonable hotel, especially by the local standards and has reasonable facilities. If you want to have more freedom in visiting the town, or you are very sensitive to cleanliness, you may want to go for a more expensive hotel in the Beira Mar area.
