The hotel was very disappointing, very small rooms (barely enough space for bags), noisy (doing renovations next doors), and the service was very average to say the least. The guy from the reception was very unfriendly, even hostile, behaving like he was making us a favour by letting us stay at his 'wonderful' hotel. The buffet breakfast was ok, but I had much better for about the same price or less. Also you have to be there early enough, otherwise they are slow in replacing the food, and you'll only get bread and the most boring cheese.
For about the same price there are better choices, in fact there are several better looking hotels on the same street. It was our first visit to Copenhagen but now we will know for sure where to not stay!!!
Overall, I guess the worst thing about this hotel was the rudeness of the people at the reception....sort of spoilt our whole experience.

Be careful if you choose this hotel. It is expensive (booked via lastminute.com) but Copenhagen is tricky to get a room sometimes because of conferences. It IS very close to the Station which is good (although the area is not a lot of fun and could be slightly unsafe at night).
The room was the smallest I have ever had - and I travel a lot(although the bathroom was OK (shower). Basically a large cupboard. I fixed the small wall mounted flatscreen TV (the cable required splicing and reconnecting...).
MAIN Complaint: I had a very early flight and needed to be woken at 5.15am. I booked a wakeup call the previous early evening. VERY LUCKILY I woke up anyway as the call never came. When I mentioned it at reception, the perfectly friendly man said "Well, you should have asked me, you asked the manager. He is very good at accounting but useless at this sort of stuff". Only problem is
1/no apology
2/no understanding that a missed wakeup call could be a dfisaster
3/ The manager is (was) the person on the desk most of the day time!
This, in my view is a critical error in a hotel, and worse that they don't care.

Stayed at the Ansgar for one night after a cruise. The rate was OK for expensive Copenhagen. The hotel was clean, check in was easy, the room was quite small and the twin beds were semi comfortable. No A/C so we had to open the window. The bath was large and functionable. The elevator was between floors so you had to lug your luggage up (or down) a half a flight of stairs. We left too early to enjoy the breakfast. The trip to the airport took about 20 minutes and cost 200 DKK. The hotel was within easy walking distance from Tivoli, Strogen and train station. The neighborhood was a bit seedy but we did not feel threatened walking around after dark. Caution: When using a credit card, you need to have a PIN number, just as you do with a debit card. We paid 1050 DKK for one night the beginning of June, 2008.

Disgusted with Ansgar

Pictures on the website made it look great. We booked a room for three. The beds were separated by about 30 cm. We immediately left and booked at the Comfort Inn Europa two blocks up the same street - about 3 times the size, marginally more expensive, but included breakfast (unlike Asgar). Only problem with Comfort Inn was the water pressure. General comment about Copenhagen - not clean. very expensive, tourist ghetto around the Rathouse and pedestrian mall. Shopping the same as in Vancouver and Berlin - recommendation - stay away and spend your money elsewhere.
Would stay there again

Very tiny bedroom, large bathroom. Rooms were freshly painted. Great breakfasts. Excellent location. Very friendly and helpful staff, a 2am check in created no problems. Would stay there again.
