We had previously been staying at a hostal, and while that was ok, it was nice to be in a hotel. It is by no means like a North American room, but it was ok. The staff were pretty good, the restaurant on the top floor was fabulous (except the price of wine; you could only purchase by the bottle instead of by the glass, but the wine was truly excellent). The room was so so in that not all the lights worked, and the bathroom mirror could have been cleaned without streaks. But all else was pretty standard. Oh, we like our window open to get fresh air, and the street noise was a bit much and woke us most nights. But you have to take into account where you are - in the heart of New Town, where all the tourists are.
We walked in from the street to book, and got a rate of $49.50/nt (they make you pay 10% more if you pay by cc).

I cannot say anything about the service cause the minute I walked in, I wanted to run away. I still managed to go to the room and it was an absolute deception. There is nothing to say about the cleanness at all, maybe they have good service and they are clean but the building and the furnitures is so old, the bedsheets and courtains I consider offensive for "business traveler", the carped was so old and seemed so used that I didnt want to take off my shoes, I seated on my luggage and called another hotel to leave inmediately. When I passed the lobby they didnt say anything, didnt ask why I was leaving, and this time the bellboy was not there to help me carrying my luggage, I think they were not surprised and just let me go in peace.

I personally had a bad experience at this hotel. I was staying there late March and on the 19th I went to check out in the morning. During checkout, I had unlocked my bag for about 2-5 minutes to fish out a an e-mail document to show the desk clerk. It was during this brief time that someone at the lobby stole me and my girlfriend's camera (total value $600+). I didn't see anyone take it but it was definitely stolen at the hotel lobby (I had just personally packed it a minute before checkout). This is odd because: the hotel is supposedly a professional establishment, there were no crowds of people around the desk at the time of the robbery, and there was an armed guard 10ft away. Then, when I sent the hotel two urgent e-mails, a couple of days apart, I did not recieve any reply from the hotel. Do not stay here. I'm not just saying that because I am bitter towards the hotel. The staff was not very friendly, the place is somewhat rundown and looks nothing like the webpage photos, and the continental breakfast stinks (although the view from the 8th floor is quite magnificent). For 40 bucks there are better places to be had such as the Hotel San Francisco in Old Quito. Just my two cents.

We had massive problems with the Hotel Suisse in Quito. We stayed on the seventh floor and had building works above us and below us. The room next to us had workers going back and forth. On complaining they promised us that this would only be happening that day. It occurred for the entire time we where there. On the second day I asked a cleaner, who just happened to be cleaning the room next door to ours at 6:30 am, to not shout so loudly. On retuning to my room this women started to scream really loudly, I returned to find her screaming at the wall facing my room. She then turned on me shouting Loco and Puta, meaning mad and whore (sorry my Spanish spelling is not brilliant).
Management thought this was a joke, did not take it serious until I started to ask for a refund and decided to book out early.
They offered me a free meal, "what ever I would like on the menu". Well that included a slammed bottle of wine on the table, and a really poor set menu. Both of us felt really ill the next day, we had only eaten half of the main coarse when we decided to leave the restaurant.
I did notice that allot of people checked out during this time and there was alto of confrontation with management by other unsatisfied clientele
They were given a four star, I don't know by whom. After this sleepless experience I would not advise anyone to stay in this place.
