Tired hotel and unproffessional staff

First impressions of the hotel were good as the public rooms are fine, but dead flowers in the toilet said all was not well.
I had booked a twin room for my two daughters and a double room for myself. When shown to my room I noticed that the wardrobe door was hanging off, there were handles missing from the chest of drawers, there was mould all around the bath and the bathroom door frame had split, presumably from flooding. The room was also very small. Not what you would expect from a four star hotel so I told the receptionist who was totally unsympathetic and said she thought the room was fine and she had given me a small room because there was only one of me (the cost of the room for single occupancy was the same as for double occupancy so there was no justification in allocating me a small room). She had the wardrobe door repaired in a makeshift way and gave me back the keys.
A dispute ensued with me saying that the room was of an unacceptable standard. Eventually she resentfully gave me another room also the smallest in the hotel but of a better standard but still in need of renovation-myriad chips to the floor tiles, mould in the bathroom, tired and rickety funiture, noisy and ineffective air conditioning......
Some of the staff were excellent but others were consistantly surly-maybe it was the heat because it was 35 degrees most of the time.
Oh, and the web site majors on a panaramic view of the restaurant and very nice it looks. However, it is now the bar and the restaurant has been moved to a rather dark and cramped basement.
Lovely location but a lot needs to be spent on the bedrooms and the staff need retraining and reminding that they are there to serve the customers.

We stayed at the S'Agaro Mar from 1st - 6th June. We travelled on the Blackpool to Girona flight and when we arrived I did fear the worst, it looked deserted and the hotel seemed dead but it was very late so I just hoped for the best.
The rooms were basic with no frills but they were spotless. We had a room for 4 ( 2 adults and 2 kids ) which just had 4 single beds but we wanted to be in the same room as the kids so that's the way it goes.
Breakfast was fine with normal continental choice plus a couple of hot dishes. Didn't do lunch or dunner so not sure about them. The staff were fantastic, didn't speak much english but they did everything they could for you.
The hotel was very quiet when we were there but this just meant we had the pool to ourselves which was great for the kids. Wish I had known you could rent towels for the pool as it would have saved lots of room in our case!
The resort was quiet and I think things had probably just opened up. but the beach was lovely and close to the hotel, though it was up a gentle slope which may be unsuitable for some.
The restaurants were fine for us and we had some nice seafood / fish meals. Usually got one of the cafe's to make us some sandwiches for lunch with a couple of beers though the hotel would do this for you too.
I suppose it depends on what kind of holiday you want. It is a quiet resort with not much happening but if you wanted to be with your family and have some chill out time I would really recommend it.
We would definitley go back again.

The Hotel S'Agaro has a lot going for it. An excellent pool. Pleasant gardens. Nice rooms. A very good restaurant (good for breakfast and dinner in particular). S'Agaro itself is nothing to write home about - there are more interesting places along the coast, but the Hotel S'Agaro is good for a night or two.

Both myself and my wife booked 10 days in Hotel S'Agaro commencing 21st May 2005. We had no no problem with the hotel whatsoever as it matched up to all I had seen and read about it. The problem was S'agaro itself. It was like a morgue. Most of the 5 or 6 restaurants were closed and those that were open offered little other than a good priced meal. The place had a couple of bars which were nice enough but lacked the presence of people and buzz. After 3 days we could take no more and asked to be moved to a more lively venue. There was no problem and we moved to Platja D'oro. There were certainly more people in this resort but it is not a place I would return to. In neither location did we find the kind of balance that a middle aged couple would want. Only for the fact that we are golfers and played 4 times, we would have rated this holiday one of the least exciting ever. Let me say in defence of the Costa Brava. It is beautiful, rugged, friendly and inexpensive. Last year we stayed in Tossa de Mer which was great. We did not want to go back to the same resort. We will definitely not be returning to either S'Agaro or Platja D'oro.
