I was a little apprehensive to say the least about my stay at anaco as i had read reviews and whilst generally good there were some bad ones. However i was pleasantly surprised. It is a somewhat quirky hotel in terms of decor (lots of wood panelling and 70's extras) but the rooms were clean and the staff were really nice too. Don't get me wrong this is not a hotel you go for if you want luxury and stunning scenery but it is centrally located, next to the gran via metro station and within easy walking distance to most of central madrids attractions. Word of warning - it isn't maybe for the faint hearted. In terms of the locality you are only a couple of hundred metres from the red light district so you WILL get lots of close proximity to prostitutes. Its not the most aesthetically pleasing site. There is graffiti and as with many city centres the streets are not the cleanest at that end of town. Although it sounds bad it really was a good value base for a long weekend to madrid. I wouldn't recommend it to families but for people like us (a mixed age group of friends after a safe comfortable place to stay on a budget) it was exactly what we needed. Oh and definitely try the bar underneath if you like people watching because there are so many random local characters in there!!!! The main issue we had was nothing to do with the hotel. Pick pockets were everywhere and 2 of my friends had their money stolen on the metro. Take care of yourself and your stuff and enjoy a colourful stay at the hotel anaco!

What a horrible place! Dark, dirty, broken furniture, unclean bathroom, constant smell of smoke everywhere (if that was a non-smoking room, than why are there two astrays on the "table").
The hotel is situated close to the Grand Via Metro station - yes, but in order to get to the hotel, you must walk thro dark alley with prostitutes standing at every doorway. The building itself is in the state of extreme neglect, so is the lobby area.
The reception staff is very fitting for this "hotel" - the one who understands some English won't even turn his head to our questions and the other dosn't speak English.
The room...just horrible. This hotel is rated 3 stars on venere.com - based on what exactly?! No fridge, no coffee machine, no laundary service, broken bed, soiled walls, dead spiders on the window, unclean toilet and a bathroom with missing pieces.
Believe me, you can find nicer hostels in Madrid than this dump.
DO NOT STAY HERE!

It's nice hotel in good price, rooms are clean, air condition is very good, location is excellent! just few meters from gran via underground station. of course it's not luxury hotel, typical ***, but it's ideal for few days in Madrid. I booked my stay by hostelworld.com and i really advise it!
