Excellent Service

I've recently stayed for 3 nights at the Hesperia Madrid. It was a great surprise the excellent service in all aspects. The staff is very attentive, the rooms are very confortable and well appointed. The bathrooms are in marble and the amenities are Bvlgari. They provide free wi-fi internet access to all guests. The only negative point is the location. If you are going on business, ok. But if yu are going for sightseeing, be aware that you'll end up using a lot of taxi or subway, because almost all major attractions aren't close by.

Hotel Hesperia Madrid was a huge disappointment! And completely over-priced. We stayed two nights. Our room was small and hot. No fan or air-conditioning. We had to sleep with the window open only to be awoken by cooing birds early morning.
There is no spa. It does have a limited gym with a nice view.
The breakfast was horrible and certainly not worth the $22 euros per-person. The breakfast consist of a poor selection of traditional Spanish food with American "dishes" such as donut holes! Many of the main dishes were gone quickly and never replaced. We cancelled the our breakfast reservation for the second morning.
They were completely under-staffed. The wait at the front desk was almost half an hour. Room service was fine and our meal was great. On arrival, the desk in the room was covered with honey (I don't understand, either!).
Lot's of inconsistencies. Certainly not worth the $225 euros a night we paid.

Clean, beautiful, quiet, ... this hotel is one of the best I've ever visited. I enjoyed the very professional attitude of the concierge, and the wonderful "smoking lounge" were I had the chance to smoke a very hard-to-find cigar with an excellent cognac.
Very nice room, but with poor view.
Quite good location in Madrid (but not exactly in the historical center).
This is a Leading Hotel of the World, and it definitely belongs to this category.

Stayed one night for a business trip and conference. Just 15 mins from the airport on the clean and pleasant metro for Euro 2.60 (colleague in a taxi took an hour in traffic for Euro 16!) Hotel is 30 seconds from the metro station, but is off centre (near the financial district) and a bit of a trek for shopping or tourism. Plenty of service in the lobby, but only one person on the desk in the evening. A room looking out onto a seven storey concrete shaft - but the alternative would have been much noisier, I suspect, facing onto a major traffic artery. Well appointed, clean and modern standard room on the 5th floor. Really comfortable bed. Good temperature control. Excellent bathroom and shower with no conceivable item not provided. Good value and pretty good quality breakfast in room. Free wifi (need code from front desk) which works even after you've checked out. Room safe big enough for a laptop. Business centre a bit dozy, but offers a useful boarding pass printing service.

Had a 4 night stay with Hesperia Madrid. Overall a good experience, despite a few minues. Please see below what I think is a balanced a fair review:
The positives:
- Guest services desk completely organized the AVE high speed train tickets from madrid to seville, including getting the paper tickets delivered.
- Room had fresh fruit and snacks daily
- Excellent breakfast (unusual for Madrid I'm told) and made to order things like Mango puree or waffels included in buffet price
- 30 sec walk to the Metro station
- Weight and fitness room has some good offerings
- Choices of pillows nice
- Extremely quiet. I hardly saw anyone there. Maid service was polite.
- Staff very helpful at getting you cabs and making sure the driver knew where you wanted to go.
The negatives:
- First time I called guest services to book a flamenco show, I was told I should call back and ask the person again at the desk tomorrow, as the show is closed sundays (why couldn't the person I just explained everything to write a note for their colleague on Sunday?)
- the bathroom was poorly light, with 4 recessed lights, (none over toliet and bath. On several occassions there was some kind of a short, and 3 of the 4 lights went out. The front desk said someone would fix it (and did but only temporarily)
- The Guest services told us that the train tickets to Toledo could be picked up on the spot at the station. however when we got there we experienced a Mob of people, and were told to get in a que where you take a number..... to make a long story short we missed the train. No one seems to understand how this train system works for the short serve trains. recommend asking the Guest services people to procure these tickets for you as well.
- I was under the impression the hotel had a spa.... but in fact they do not. (I happen to call from my cell phone while I was out one day, and asked the front desk if I could make a spa appt and was told "we don-t have a spa...." What they do have in the fitness room is a bare minimum list of spa services, which I guess they outsource from another place. In any case it is not advertised v much (e.g. not even a spa menu in the room.)
so in short, overall a good experience - as I figure the negatives (train incident and lighting) were probably flukes. Probably the biggest disapointment for me was not having an on site spa. I would probably stay closer to downtown if I were to go again.
