just stunning from start to finish. Can't fault this hotel at all. Spa facilities were excellent, and all the treatments were superb. Stayed in the Great Moghul Suite, with private pool, and really could not have been happier. Amazing service 24/7 and a great restaurant. A week was just not long enough!

Having more than 400 rooms this is by far the best hotel in the world...the great views, the huge lawns, the palatial setting just takes you in...i went there for my honeymoon and the experience was tereffic..the staff is extremely helpful and the service is prompt..it took us almost 2 days to see the entire hotel and every nook and corner was fabulous with attention to detail given to each section of the hotel..Since this is an off season for the hotel the main pool was under maintainance but the spa pool was equally great with a scenic backdrop..we had a room with a garden view and there were peacocks in our garden at any given point in time...just marvelous...the food was also excellent and the rooms are huge compared to other hotels..

We have stayed at beautiful hotels in the past, but this far exceeds any of them. Udaivilas is spectacular. Can't fault the service or anything else at the hotel. Staff are extremely helpful; food is exceptional, especially the Indian food. Our only complaint, and it is minor, is that a couple of the waiters in the restaurant have a tendency to constantly ask if your food is OK and to try to make conversation when you really want some privacy. Otherwise, I can fully understand why this hotel is rated so highly in the major travel magazines. Do yourself a favor and stay here even though it is expensive.

Flew into Mumbai, had a 5 hour wait for the connecting flight which wasn't great as all the lounges are closed. Jet airways connecting flight was excellent and Udaipur airport (very new) was very effficient.
We were met by a charming driver in a Jeep from the Hotel, who had cold towels and water, which was a very welcoming start to the holiday. The arrival at the hotel was fantastic, the jeep dropped us at a jetty and we arrived at the hotel by boat, awesome. The hotel buildings are quite stunning.
We were very early at the hotel (about 8am), but the room was available immediately, another perfect start after a long journey from London. We had wanted a Lake view room (they have direct access to a semi-provate pool), but there were none available for the whole of our stay for us to upgrade to, and whilst the hotel did everything it could to help us, because we would have had to change room twice, we decided to stay in our allocated room (312), which as it turned out was perfect as it opened onto the main pool.
The room was very nice, very big and comfy bed, well appointed bathroom with free standing bath and seperate large shower, TV has pleanty of sport channels. I object to paying for internet access (?11 a day), I think that these days, a modern 5* hotel should have free, and wireless internet, this hotel does not have wireless and you have to pay even in the business centre.
As our stay was only one week, we wanted to have a relaxing holiday with some "light" sightseeing, the manager, Torsten, who had introduced himself when we arrived, discussed with us what we wanted to see/do and organised a perfect excursion itinery, with an excellent guide.
We spent our time at the hotel at the main pool and the spa pool, both are lovely, with the pool service at both, quite outstandng, (water, bookmarks, water spray, sun cream).
We ate breakfast at the hotel every day, it is buffet style plus some a la carte options, the breakfast is very good, not amazing, but very good, with fresh juices, pastries, cereals, cold meats, fruit etc.
We ate dinner at the hotel every night ( a mix of room service and restaurant) bar one, the food, a selection of local and international cuisine, was excellent, as was the service. I thought the wine was expensive.
We ate lunch at a near(ish) restaurant (Ambrai), recommended by Torsten, I thought the food (local) was every bit as good as the hotel, and, as you would expect much cheaper, but clearly you take more of a "risk" if you eat outside the hotel.
We also ate dinner at the Lake Palace, which, whilst the food was good, the 3500Rps (?43) minimum charge per head for the food only, is a complete rip off as there is no way a couple can eat that value of food unless you are monster eaters !!
My partner had a spa treatment, which she said was fantastic, the treatments seemed to be ok priced (?50 for 1 hour treatments).
The gym has 2 treadmills, a bike and cross-trainer as well as a decent selection of resistance machines (upper and lower body) and some free weights (up to 50lbs).
Checkout was very efficient, it was great tto be able to have breakfast in the room before our early departure.
Return flight to Mumbai was fine, but a word of warning for Mumbai t/f's, the International Terminal is seperate from the domestic terminal, they are connected by a bus which only runs every 30 mins (it is prob a 15 min journey), so be prepared for a potential wait and also there are a lot of security checks at Mumbai, so allow yourself plenty of time.
To sum up, it is a stunning hotel, with great staff, superb management, great pools, spa, good gym, good food, it is easy to understand why it has won so many awards.
