Good Hotel

This is the second time I stayed here. I liked it. Good hotel, nice staff, clean room, big room, no major problems. It has a free shuttle that took me to my client's offices nearby. Only problem was the breakfast room is too small. If you arrive a bit before 8, you will need to share a table (tables are small also). I ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, but I would advise dining at the diner or pub on the other side of the street instead. Nothing interesting to do in the area. Taxi drivers know the place as the Belson hotel (not Gresham). Nice hotel, and I enjoyed the stay in Belgium.
A grim experience

What a dreadful experience. The hotel is not cheap and displays a 4 star sign at its front door but the standards certainly don't live up to the mark. The location is OK - convenient to the airport and city but this is one very anonymous hotel, and there are many much better offers available in Brussels.
Ignoring the dead and dying plants in the tubs at the front door, I found the reception staff efficient, but hardly welcoming. The room I had was simply awful - grey net curtains in front of a window that looked out at a service yard filled with skips and rubble. No air conditioning (but a huge electric fan was sitting on the room desk), a bath room and toilet that were small, dingy and not somewhere that you would want to be.
The mini-bar costs were astonishing - 2.75 euros for a small Mars bar, and the internet conection charges followed the same pattern.
Dinner in the 'restaurant' was an experience not to be repeated. Comprising just 4 tables at the back of the bar, the menu was short to say the least. Hoping that a lack of choice wold be offset by good quality, my 'lasagne' was a stack of pasta sheets that had been cooked and then left under a heater to re-harden, layered with beef that was tough and inedible, and some grim tomato sauce spread on top - that was it. Quite unbelievable!
The apologetic waiter agreed to waive my bill and gave me my coke free of charge, after which I headed for the Italian restaurant less than 100 yards away.
Altogether, not a place I would recommend.

The hotel's biggest asset is it's location halfway between traffic heavy downtown Brussels and the airport. The local neighbourhood seems safer at night, than downtown Brussels.
A hearty Irish cooked, breakfast (22 Euro) is served in the renovated Dublin Room. For the more chlorestoral weary traveler a good continental spread of, fruits, juices, cereals, smoked salmon, cheese, breads, fruit, figs and dates are served, with tea or strong coffee.
The "male only" morning reception staff are friendly, polite, multilingual and very efficient at arranging courtesy transport to the airport, or corporate head offices at Zaventem. When the courtesy bus was full, they provided a taxi to get me to meetings on time. I was impressed. The evening female staff by contrast are dour and feel no need to greet returning guests.
Evening meals are snack standard probably due to the economics of most people eating out.
One computer Internet post is provided in the lobby. At 5 Euros for 15 minutes, I realized why nobody used it. A net cafe 5 minutes walk from the hotel charges 2 Euro per hour. Gresham needs to get real on internet fees.
Not a cheap hotel considering it's average standards, however for the business traveler the location and efficient transportation service is worth considering.

I was expecting a lot more from the Gresham chain but this place is extremely mediocre. The free shuttle service to airport was about the only highlight, everything else was a let down. Its generally clean but thread-bare carpets in the corridors contributed to the general feeling that this place really needs a face lift. The bar/"restaraunt" staff were friendly and serviced reasonable food but very limited choice (pasta or panini). The reception staff on departure were just plain rude. First I had to argue (and I mean argue!) that my room rate already included breafast. I then tried to get a reprint of bill with correct company address which caused another argument. Other colleagues had the same problem with different reception staff. Do not intend to stay here again.
