Location of this hotel is fantastic in relation to Palazzo San Marco. Our room was small but overlooked the canals and the bathroom more than adequate in relation to most hotels in this area.
Breakfast was a real dissapointment and we found that each day we left food as it was stale. This was the only fault we found with the hotel.
Through the day we walked away from San Marco to avoid the crowds, but headed back in the evening to enjoy the brilliant ambience of the palazzo and music.

We were worried having already booked this hotel and then reading reviews. But we need not have worried, there was nothing wrong with the hotel that you would not expect from such an old building surrounded by water! Yes the rooms are slightly small but why would you want to spend much time in your room with so much to see out side. The location was fantastic and the service helpful and friendly. It is a perfect base to see the sights and considering what we paid I think some people ned to stop complaining and try to enjoy themselves!!

you cannot sleep as it is too noisy, the room service is terrible ie. two paper cups and two tea bags,no hot water for washing or bathing, very small double room, breakfast ok but food for the rest of the day is terrible,we were served meat that was bad and unedible !! windows do not shut properly so not only can you not shut out the incredible noise but you cannot shut out the stench from the open drain they call a canal outside we stayed in December when it was cold and frosty it must be horrendous in the summer at this hotel ( and the air conditioning did not work) in all we recommend find another hotel this is an expensive rip off
Suprisingly good stay

I was concerned about staying at the Albergo San Marco after reading previous reviews but I have to say that we found it to be very comfortable, excellently located and relatively easy to find!
Yes the rooms are small (and vary quite a lot throughout the hotel in size), but it is in the heart of Venice so what do you expect? They were clean with good views (we looked up at the Campanile and down to the canal) and contained everything that you need in a hotel room - although we did have to ask for the tea and coffee facilities to be brought to the rooms.
The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly. We had a small problem with the type of rooms allocated to our party when we arrived but they did their best to resolve this as quickly as possible.
Although the hotel is not directly accessible by Vaporetto it is literally a 5 min walk from any of the San Marco stops.
The bar is small and expensive but not that much different to other bars in the area.
I wouldn't rely on the restaurant for lunch/evening meals though. The snack food is OK but you can get much better quality meals at the numerous restaurants in the area.
