I simply loved it! I had read the reviews and i was expecting something really awful, but the experience was great. I know that some parts of the hotel looked a little too old (the carpets on the service stairs, a window that did not close etc.), but the overall experience was great. The staff was very helpful (even if our French was not that great), the location was excellent (right next to the Louvre and a subway station), the breakfast was good and i absolutely adored the vintage look of the white furniture and the huge bathroom (although my parents were not that lucky: they had a tiny bathroom, but a great view).
All in all, it was a great experience and when our friends returned to Paris, we had them take a picture of the Normandy, as it was the perfect stay for a 5-day visit of Paris

We stayed in this hotel some years ago and had some good memories. We chose it for this trip because of location which is wonderful. The room was large and comfortable but it really needs updating. Charmless and a bit shabby.
However, after 4 nights, I asked for extra pillows - promptly delivered. Woke up the next morning with bites!!! I complained to the concierge who looked really stricken. That evening we could tell the room had been sprayed. Next morning, still more bites!
We were there for 7 nights, 4 of them biteless. I know that bedbugs are a real problem with hotels from New York to Miami to Paris but the idea, and the fact, left me feeling pretty creepy.
I'd give this hotel (at 300 euros per night for the 1st week in June) a miss until they fix it up a bit.

I am writing such a delayed review since I have read so many bad reviews on here of the hotel. My husband and I stayed here twice back in March of 2004 (3 days before our week in Switzerland and myself alone for 5 days directly after the week in Switzerland).
Yes the reviews talking about the hotel being rundown are typically correct. I personally stayed in 2 seperate rooms and they were both quite dated. The carpets were stained and the furnishings could use some updating. HOWEVER..... The price was unbeatable. We payed about $180 USD per night. For this price in such a great location in Paris, this is a great hotel. I mean lets be real here... When in Paris, you spend all day and evening out exploring and you are only in the hotel for sleeping. We found the location to be just a metro trip and easy cab ride away from everything.
On my second stay here, my husband was traveling for business in Russia and I drove back to Paris to get in some more sightseeing on my own. As a woman in my late 20's (at the time), I never felt unsafe at this location. The staff at the hotel was very accomodating (they even stored some ski's for me so that I didn't have to step over them in my room. They also called me a cab that could transport such bulky items to the airport.)
A great example of the wonderful staff here: At night after dinner, I didn't really feel like going out and exploring on my own, so I would spend the evening in the hotel bar reading a book and drinking some wine. My husband was calling me each night from his trip and I didn't want to have to sit in my room waiting for his call (we were with Sprint at the time and our cell phones were not an option). I simply would tell the front desk that I was waiting for a phone call and that I would be in the bar. Every night without fail, they would come and get me and tell me that my husband was on the phone. They also transferred the call to the bar phone so that I could speak to him there. Certainly, the hotel did not need to go to such trouble to track me down.
Overall, if you are expecting the Ritz Carlton at a low end Marriott price, you will be sadly disappointed. My opinion is that you get what you pay for. Bottom line, the rooms were clean (and yes a bit worn and stained), but for this price you can not complain about it. You are in Paris to see the city, not to hang out in your room. All you need is a clean bed and you are good! If you don't want to be out exploring the city at night, just hang out in their bar. It has a great feel to it and the staff is wonderful.

We stayed here last weekend for two nights with our children taking two rooms. We know Paris well but hadn't been for several years, so we chose this hotel on the recommendation of a parents magazine article. The hotel is one to avoid based on our experience. Many people have posted to say that the location is good but frankly anywhere in central Paris (on either side of the river) has its advantages. Customer service was appalling (e.g. my French is good enough to understand the language that was being used under the breath of the reception clerk when we appeared not to have been given interconnecting rooms.) The rooms themselves are in a bad state - tepid water, sinks with no plugs and badly pitted enamel, dusty curtains, peeling and cracked walls. Breakfast was OK - they've clearly spent money on this room but not others - although the service ethos is still lacking here e.g. our children's hot chocolate was served in a teapot with a badly chipped spout which meant it spilt everywhere. It's the kind of hotel that I used to stay in with my parents in the seventies and doesn't look as if it has had any money spent on it in the intervening decades. I wouldn't have minded but the cost for two nights for two rooms came in at over ?920 - it's very very poor value and probably kept busy by tour groups. Sadly whilst the demand for this level of mediocrity remains, hotels like this will continue to get away with it. Boutique hotel in ain't. In my experience, to be avoided.

Do not trust this hotel/staff!

We have just come back from Paris after a fabulous weekend bar this hotel! We stayed here for two nights. Location was excellent and we couldn't have asked for better. At the start the staff came across quite nice until there was a problem that is! We checked out on sunday at 12pm but forgot my designer jacket in the wardrobe. We went back at 5pm thinking my jacket would have been left in reception for me to collect. Instead the staff were rude and tried to convince me I had packed it into my suitcase. We checked the room and the jacket had mysteriously disappeared! They then proceeded to tell us that the cleaners had gone home and there was nothing they could do! They didn't have access/keys to the cleaning room so they said, which I found extremely strange. We didn't get an apology or anything. I have been calling them since I've come back to see if the cleaning woman has come back with it but nothing!! They also told me that if they were to find it they would charge my credit card for postage back to Dublin!
We had to rush for our flight so there was basically nothing we could do. They ruined a brilliant weekend in Paris and I would not recommend anyone to stay here.
