We spent six nights at this place during July 2008. The online booking directly with the hotel was easy and we got everything we booked, no problems. The location is central and about 10 minutes' walk (at our speed, although a fit young person could do it in 5) from the nearest metro station, also called Indautxu. The hotel service couldn't be faulted and our room was nice enough, with a view over a quiet side street. We had a small medical emergency while in residence and that was sorted out professionally, with prompt paramedic attendance organised by the reception staff. The restaurant is very pleasing, with attentive service and nice little complimentary appetisers at dinner. The food was quite rich for my taste and I would have welcomed some vegetables. At breakfast there is a wonderful hot and cold buffet, with everything one could possibly wish for. I doub't we'll ever return to Bilbao but Hoteles Silken is definitely on my list for any future trips to Spain.

I agree with most of the previous reviews - the hotel really deserves its 4 stars: professional staff (but not overly friendly), rooms of a good size with everything you could expect in this category, nice lobby. The breakfast buffet had a large choice of fruits, sweets (apparently the Spanish loved them for breakfast!) and some warm dishes. Only the bread choice was disappointing.
We had dinner in the restaurant: Nicely decorated, well trained staff, but the food was mediocre and overpaid compared to other restaurants in town. Surprisingly we had the best meal for the lowest price at the Guggenheim museum - you would rather expect that this would be a tourist trap! For a lunch with starter, main course and dessert (always a few options to choose from), including water and a bottle of wine to share for two, we paid only 18 euros - and the food was really first class!

We had some problems to find the hotel car park, so we walked to the hotel and ask for help: a member of the staff went out with me and drove our car into the car park. Good.
The room was very nice and modern with a flat screen tv set on the wall, big and confortable beds, great wardrove. The bathroom size and light were also perfect.
Good location. It is easy to walk to the Guggenheim Museum, the old town...
Good (but a litle expensive) breakfast.

The location of the hotel is very good.
The rooms are modern but too small for the star billing of this property, and the price they charge.
Lobby was adequate
Staff are cold and unfriendly at check-in despite issues raised with them politely.
The biggest and unforgivable issue for business travellers is the terrible internet.
The deal was this: the price was quite expensive (17 Euros per day) BUT the internet did NOT work in the rooms. Their wi-fi was not designed for room use. You are told that if you want to use it you must come down to the lobby with your notebook. Hardly appropriate when you are paying over Euro 100 per night.
At check out I objected to the hotel management (the manager in person came to speak to me) for charging me Euro 17 per day when their wi-fi did not work other than in the lobby.
I was sent packing unceremoniously.
I told them I would post a review on Trip Advisor telling travellers that for a business traveller the whole setup was very inappropriate. They were unmoved.
The manager (I speak Spanish being fully bilingual) could not care less, and waved me away disdainfully.
The morale of the story is: adequate hotel, good location but very small rooms and deficient set up for business travellers. If you need to do any work while in Bilbao, this hotel should be avoided unless they fix this issue. It wasn't that the internet connection did not happen to work in their rooms at that time. I was DESIGNED not to work in their rooms.

A nice hotel, clean, with very friendly helpful staff. We booked direct which was very good value. I'd recommend this hotel.
We went to the partner/ sister hotel (Domine) for dinner at the 'Betz the black' restaurant which was very nice.
