I stayed at the Starhotels Rosa in room 329 from 30/5 until 1/6/2008. My room was a superior room...It was very spacious with a fitting room, bedroom and a large bathroom but it has a terrible view of an old broken wall which was really depressing.
The superior rooms are still not refurbished and they really need a makeover but they are clean. If you are looking for modern rooms then book the executive rooms.
The breakfast is average and it is included with the room. The location can't be beaten, few steps from the Dumo and is the ideal location for shopping...Many restaurants surround the hotel...Just used the Taxi once when going to Linate airport which is about 20 minutes far. The staff are very friendly...If I visit this hotel again I will stay in the new refurbished rooms. I really enjoyed the chocolate and the hot chocolate offered in the room daily.

An ok hotel
I stayed there from the 6th until the 8th of January with my girlfriend in order to go shopping.
The spot of the hotel is excellent because it’s on the main road, near the Duomo.
But except from its position it costs nearly double from the same hotel (Starhotel Anderson) which is in the railway station (3 metro stops).
The hotel surely needs renovation, but I don’t think that anyone would choose it because of its luxury..
I fear that if they renovate it, and they charge it more, I wouldn’t stay there…

My wife and I booked 3 nights in this hotel. To summarize, the hotel was really 2 faced, some areas were brand new, luxurious and nice while others looked like a train station - all worn out-. Not really consistent in it's representation.
We arrived at 10 am on the 30th of November 2007 and was allowed to check in immediately.
We had a regular room with a window but no view. The window looked out onto the middle of the building, so we could see other windows only.
The hotel-
Staff-
So-so, some staff was very helpful! Really showed effort and friendliness to suggest places to dine, which metro line to take to the Stazzione Centrale (Central Station), and then some staff would not give us more than a minute of his and her time (I know they were not busy because they had no other guests to look after and had been standing idle before we approached them). Overall, staff was helpful. A 6.5 out of 10.
The best staff were the bellboys (of Indian, Morrocan and Philipino). Friendly and obliging.
Location-
Excellent, even better than excellent - prime. Literally 2 minutes walk from the Duomo. Direct access to all the restaurants (loved Bar Madonnina), shops and city center. About 5 minutes walk to the Duomo metro station (red line I believe but double check).
Lobby-
Nice, lots of marble and ambient lighting. Not really the Burj AlArab or Emirates Palace but nice for European hotels. We didnt spend any time at the lounge or bar.
Breakfast Buffet-
TERRIBLE! Some not so appetizing looking scrambled eggs along with crossaints (plain, brown, an cream filled) sliced cheeses, some tired looking fruits, milk for some even more tired looking cereals and bacon. Thats it! For people who are vegetarian or Muslim, we had to stick to scrambled eggs, crossaints and cereal.
Restaurant was run down looking. This goes with my statement above that some areas were really nicely renovated and some werent.
Rooms-
Cosy, the bathroom was way newer and nicer than the room. The bathroom was nicely litup, sink, tub were new. The weird (but excellent) thing for a European hotel was the availability of a bidet. You only find bidets in Arab/Muslim accomodations. The bed and pillows were nice. The TV was tiny (but who cares?!?! you're in Milano!!).
I cant comment on price because we got the rooms and air tickets in a package.

First time I have had a weekend here in April. Was great! Room at 4 floor, very clean, windows over Dom spire, NS floor, no smell, clean corirdor, perfect breakfast.
Second time in October 4 night. Third floor, very dirty corridor, dirty carpet, dark room, I have to call 3 times for second bathrobe and slippers! Poor breakfast. I have ask a taxi to transfer to the airport wich normal is 70 euros and they give us a minivan( for two person!!!!!!!!) with no any name or sign for 95 euros!
Never again!
