Not a 4-star hotel!

When I booked this hotel, I was expecting a 4-star hotel service, but I was wrong. From the minute we arrived, the experience was very disappointing. The staff at the check-in desk was not very welcoming, not very helpful and even rude.
The junior suite was of an acceptable size, but it was a major disappointment. It was very dark (even with all the lights on), with patches of damp and peeled painting on the entrance hall of the room. When I complained to the reception desk about the smell of damp the only answer that I received was 'open the window'.
The deco was very dull and the carpets could do with some updating. The bathroom was OK. The room was overlooking the garden (more of a small patio than a garden), although the main view was an ugly internal massive wall. Compared to any 4-star hotel across Europe the facilities provided were well below the standard.
Some positive points: the location; it's quiet, with hardly any traffic noice; breakfast was good.

Nice Hotel BUT.....

My girlfriend and I recently stayed at the Garden Elysee for three nights. The hotel and its facilities were pretty good generally and the room price we considered to be reasonable. We were really dissapointed that having arrived having driven from the UK, we were not allowed through the car park barrier so as to off load our luggage and had to empty the car on the street and hope (as we needed to check in) that we didn't receive a parking fine! Another annoyance.... we were overcharged for breakfast (all beit just 15 euros!) continental breakfast is 21 euros for coffee, croissants, bread rolls, cooked meats, cheeses and friut selections. If you only wanted coffee and a croissant this was 16 euros (my girlfriend chose this latter option but was charged the full 21 euros and nothing we said to the receptionist was going to change that!). Another 'surprise'.... 2 gin and tonics in the hotel bar cost 36 euros which we complained about and they credited us 8 euros. I made comments direct to the hotel about these experiences but received NO REPLY....shame really when the room and general service at the Garden Elysee were good
Great location and friendly staff!

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a 3 nights stay at the Garden Elysee from 7th to 10th March and had a lovely time.
The hotel is located off a side street in a courtyard and looks very welcoming. All the staff we ever dealt with were very friendly and helpful too.
The rooms are small but well appointed and very clean. There was a slight stale smell in the corridor and in our room so we kept the window open all day and night to freshen it up. The bathrooms are modern and clean and the bed was comfy too. Only had a sheet and blanket on the bed and it was chilly at night but maybe because we had the window open for air!
We didn't eat in the hotel at all as wanted to be out and about enjoying the local cafe's for breakfast and lunch. We did however use the minibar in the room and be warned there are no prices in the room! The small bottle of champagne cost ?18! Most enjoyable but I couldn't believe the price! We bought our own wine after that and kept it in the fridge and the staff were happy to open it for us too. There is a small supermarket just next to the hotel, handy for buying water for the room etc.
We never planned to spend much time in the hotel as we were in Paris to enjoy the gorgeous city but we loved the hotels location, very close to Eiffel Tower, Arc D' Triomphe and Champ Elysee. A walk along the Seine in the sunshine is a must as it is just beautiful!!!

We stayed here for a long weekend in April 2008. The Garden Elysee is very tastefully designed, especially the bar and reception. US visitors may find the rooms a bit small, but they are an average size for Paris. The hotel is well located on a quiet street, in the largely residential 16th arrondisement. It is close to two Metro stations, and in walking distance of the Eiffel Tower and the tourist boats on the Seine. There is a good selection of shops locally. There is a reasonably wide choice of restaurants nearby, though being in the 16th means that they tend to be pricy.

I stayed here once before and had a quiet room on the top floor.
This time, I was a late arrival: having requested a quiet non-smoking room and paid for a non-standard room, I was given a depressing room that stank of smoking (reception's attitude was tant pire) so the window - in February - had to be open through the night.
The corridor outside the room smelt strongly of over subscribed lavatories.
The room itself was clean: poor chambermaid having to work in this dump. The bed was clean too and the lavatory was very clean.
But the guests were louts: every late arrival at his/her room had a loud conversation outside their door before slamming it.
An English woman had a loud conversation on her mobile after midnight before retiring.
At 3 am - 3 am mark you - two loud American men sat outside my window smoking and calling home: shutting the window kept their smoking smell out but the smoking smell in the room started to build up again and shutting the window did not quieten the noise. The men knew but did not care about the disruption they were causing. The noise only stopped when it started raining: the night porter would have known of the noise but did nothing.
The receptionist the following morning was of the "dismissive and I don't give a toss" variety.
So, if you're a noisy lout who wants a clean room smelling of smoke, this is the perfect place for you. Enjoy.
Anyone else: Paris has better. This hotel has doubled its prices over the last year so you should be able to get a better ddeal somewhere else.
I was next to useless for work the following day having not slept here. And breakfast was fairly uninviting, served without the merest hint of charm.
