I stayed in the hotel for a week in mid-June. Generally I liked my stay, the hotel is very well-located, right on the beach. I also liked the location of the resort itself as it is just a few bus-stops away from the city of Palma.
As I was travelling alone, I took a single room. It was quite spacious, with a balcony and had a magnificent sea view, so you could enjoy the view and the sound of the sea without getting up from the bed. Yes, as to the bed, or better to say, twin beds pulled together that kept sliding apart, so I had to struggle during the night to keep them together.
Now to the drawbacks:
1. Poor room service. Didn't like the way the maids cleaned the bathroom and the bath (there were often the remainings of sand on the next day after I took the shower).
2. The furniture in the room looked a bit shabby.
3. There was virtually no entertaining program at the hotel at all -- just some plump 35-odd ladies and a travesti dancing can-can with evident lack of skill at all. Around the hotel there were very few decent bars and a disco that played the tunes of 80-s.
4. Rather dirty sea.
Despite these nuisances, overall I enjoyed my little holiday. Next time I'm in Mallorca, I will probably look for another hotel, though.

We stayed at this hotel for 5days, the hotel is spotlessy clean and the staff friendly. However, it is not suitable for anybody under 60 as this was the age bracket. The entertainment was geared for this age group as was the hotel in general. We only did the breakfast buffet and we found the food only ok!
The hotel is very close to the beach which was a huge plus for us. It is supposed to be 4star but it is only a 3star really.
Also no sun on the balcony when you return from beach in the evening, the sun has moved to back of the hotel. We didnt like this as we always enjoy to relax out on balcony but this was not possible as we were on 6th floor and it was too windy and no sun, actually it was freezing at times!
We will definatley not go back there again, also we found the resort of Cala Mayor far too quite and we were not looking for too much craziness but a buzz of any description would have been nice, however the whole resort was very very quite.
Our week there was from June 5th to June 10th, 2008
FYI info we are in the age bracket of 40 to 50..

Stayed at the Cala Mayor from June 5th to June 11th and I would say that the previous report is pretty spot on. In fact it’s a shame we didn’t meet up as we also felt like the youngest people there (age bracket 38-41), with the exception of a few teenagers who arrived at the weekend!!!
A couple more points to mention:
Although the hotel was spotless it did have a run-down feel, with frayed carpets on the stairs and peeling paint in the bath (for some reason the bath had been painted with white paint ….). I would probably class it as 2+, certainly no where near a 4 star. However the reception staff and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful, and the maid service (daily) was excellent.
Breakfast was pretty good provided you stuck to the cereals, fresh fruit ,or bread, cheese and hams. The hot food was largely unidentifiable and nearly always lukewarm. We also made the error of selecting the half board option and the dinners were pretty poor. The hotel caters largely for a German clientele and this extends to the food choice, which is obviously geared towards a German palate. Lots of the food was pickled, veal was a common choice and as with breakfast we often looked at each-other in disbelief at the hot food options (again, lukewarm) which bore no resemblance to their names. Desserts took us back to our childhood and the 70s, with jelly and ice-cream and weirdly coloured blancmanges. There were also a lot of German pastries.
My friend and I are both non-smokers and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who does not smoke. Just walking through the bar to get to the restaurant and you are covered in a haze of smoke – note to hotel staff ... putting non-smoking tables right next to smoking tables doesn’t make any difference. The nightly entertainment in the bar was geared towards the over 60’s clientele though it did have a comedy value for us, if only we’d been able to stick the cigarette smoke.
Probably our biggest gripe was that given the hotel was geared towards an elderly clientele, there was no where outside of the hotel to go for a beer in the evenings. I assume this is because it’s ever so slightly out of season but Cala Mayor has the feel of a ghost town, and a very run-down ghost town at that!
Biggest plus point is definitely the location of the hotel, only minutes from the beach with a great sea-view when you open your curtain in the morning. However, as the above report mentioned, the balcony didn’t get any sun in the evening, though if the sun was shining at around 8 am, it was pretty warm out there!! Although we were out of season the beach was still packed at the weekend, and uncomfortably so. This is because Cala Mayor is a largely residential place and so the locals use it as their beach. Final point on the beach - the beach restaurant was abysmal, both in terms of service and the obviously defrosted/microwaved food. Unfortunately, as it's the only beach bar, it had a monopoly. There are a handful of restaurants about 5-10 mins walk away from the beach and all are 100% superior.
We would certainly never return to Cala Mayor and I would not recommend it for anyone under 60.

Just returned from a 4 night stay 22-5-08 to 26-5-08 half board
The hotel itself wasn't that bad, food very pleasant and edible, the rooms defo only 2* and not 4* but immaculately cleaned daily.
We were the only English there, mainly Danish and German and over 65
Cala Mayor itself is a very run down place, very old and not a thing to do,no shops, bars etc Spent a lot on taxis going out to places and nothing to do in the hotel either of an evening
The beach is nice and a stones throw from the hotel with a nice caf? to use at lunchtime. Two beds and an umbrella is charged at 9 euros 10 cents for the whole day
All in all enjoyed our stay but would definately not return.
