We had a family reunion with about 25 people at the hotel. The Arrowwood seems to want to be 5-star, but comes up a little short in service.
Rooms are very spacious, quality of the rooms is between that of a family hotel and a business hotel. Free wired and wireless internet is nice, housekeeping was fine. If you have long hair, bring your own shampoo as the toiletries are very minimal.
The hotel is right on a lake with a private beach, pools, a small but full-servivce marina with water-sport rentals, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, two restaurants, a golf course, a (nice!) putting course, and stables.
The hotel also feautures its own indoor water-park. This park is not huge but will keep the kids occuppied. It has many water-play areas, 3 tube slides, a small "lazy river" for tubing, and a few other attractions. Admission is apparently included in some room rates but not others, so check. It probably won't keep adults busy but is good for families.
The food was fairly good, not memorable, but competent.
Where the hotel fell short was service. Perhaps because it was the summer, the hotel hires alot of local high-school and college kids and while they mean well, they simply haven't been trained in high-end hotel service. At the restiarant, our group of 25's meals had many errors made in service, some of which were comped by way of apology, and finally a half-hour wait after dinner while the kitchen tried to figure out the bills by room number. It's not that they didn't care, they simply didn't have the professional management backing the inexperienced servers.
We also had a problem with water-park tickets that management, in my opinion, mishandled badly, leaving a few members of our large group angry at the hotel over what amounted to a half-dozen $15 tickets that nobody could get a straight answer to about why they were or were not included in various room rates. An experienced manager would have quickly handed over the tickets with an apology, even if the misunderstanding was on the guests' part (which we still don't know if it was).
In another case, the marina closed during a rainstorm, but then chose not to re-open after the brief rainstrom ended, supposedly because another rain was expected (it never materialzed). Some members of our group felt that the staff simply wanted to go home.
By way of pricing we were pleasantly surprised. While the room rates were reasonable, we've come to expect "hotel" pricing on anything in the hotel, and this was not the case - food, drink, and activity prices were in line with a non-hotel environment, so we never felt ripped off, and Minnesota is less costly than our area, so we paid much less for many things at the hotel than we would have expected.
In conclusion, it's a nice resort hotel - it's just not quite at the level that it advertises itself as being - but the price is also very reasonable for what you get.

We stayed at Arrowood for a weekend with our kids. We got a standard room which was a bit small. and it was a maze of hallways to get to the water park. Its a long walk for a small cold wet child. The water park was basically deserted the first night we were there. We had 5 lifeguards and our family of 6. I think we were pretty safe! The water park is nice but could be more exciting. The hotel room had a fridge and we brought our own food. The rooms were clean but with a family of 6 we never have enough towels no matter where we go. Arrowwood was no exception. overall it was a lot of money for a mediocre stay. Nothing specific that happened that wasbad, it just wasnt as great as it could have been.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel April of 2008 during their off season. We were in a spacious King bed room that had a small kitchenette, sofa area and dining/work table. We found the furniture to be really luxurious with beautiful woods and granite tops. The bed was an ornate sleigh bed and the linens and mattress were very comfortable. The bathroom was really clean and had great tilework. The property is really gorgeous and relaxing. Our room had a deck that faced the lake with a lovely view. There is a great indoor waterpark for kids. The only downfall was that our trip had changed and instead of staying two nights we could only stay one. I alerted the front desk clerk of the change when we arrived and she said that there was a strict 72 hour cancellation policy and we would be charged for the extra night. I travel full time for business and found this policy absurd. My husband ended up speaking with the manager later and she did decide not to charge us in the end. Overall we would return to this resort again.

Fun place to stay, but needs updating

We stayed here on a family vacation with our 6 year old son. We stayed in a kids suite which includes a bunk bed and a king bed. The room was clean, but the decor could use an update. The one downside of the room, is that all the noise from the hallway can easily be heard in the room. The beds could also use new mattress.
We did use the water park and my 6 year loved the water park. The park was never over crowded when we were there. It would have been nice if the pool tempature was warmer.
We did eat a few meals in the onsite resturant. The food was pretty good for hotel food, but the service was sometimes slow. I would also say that the food was reasonably priced. We did not try room service.
Overall we had a good stay here and would probably go back. I would like to see the decor updated.
Fun getaway for the family

We just returned from a trip to the Arrowwood resort in Alexandria. It's a nice resort for a weekend get away, especially during the winter months in MN. The hotel was clean, but could use a little updating. We felt there was plenty to do both inside and out. We loved the sledding hill, the ice skating rink and both pools. The indoor water park was fun, but the air temp was a little chilly. The restaurant had a pretty good menu for dinner, but we wouldn't recommend the Sunday brunch. We felt it was a little expensive and the food was pretty basic for the price. Overall, it was a good experience and we will probably head back to Alexandria again next winter.
