I stayed at Kempinski for 3 weeks, while looking for an apartment in Shenzhen. When your at a hotel for that long, it can get uncomfortable and you will start to see the inconsistencies in service. Not at this hotel! HOTEL: I LOVE this hotel! The service is outstanding, the hotel is gorgeous, rooms were super clean, turn down service every night. The breakfast buffet is awesome, the dinner buffet delicious as well. The pool makes you feel like your in a dream. The workout room is good with treadmills, weight machines, step machine & there is always an attendant waiting nearby to bring you a towel, water or whatever you need. AREA: Across the street from the hotel is a huge new mall with several restaurants and types of food. After staying at the hotel for 3 weeks, I ended up moving 2 blocks away so I know the area pretty well. FOOD: If you don't want to eat at the hotel, I recommend the teppanyaki restaurant 3rd floor in the building directly behind the hotel, all you can eat & drink including alcohol for 150RMB ($20USD). A cheap meal at Ajisan Ramen Noodle on the bottom floor of the Food City complex in the mall is one of my favorite lunch stops. There is a Thai Restaurant on the 5th floor above the ice skating rink that is AWESOME! If you want chinese take a taxi to a restaurant called 6000 flavors, it's a couple of blocks across the street from Shenzhen University, about 10mins from the hotel. I'm not a huge fan of chinese food, but this place is great! It's clean and the menu has pictures with english descriptions. ENTERTAINMENT: The hotel is also about a 15-20 min taxi ride (cost $3USD each way) to a large expat area called SeaWorld, Shekou with several bars and restaurants that cater to foreigners. At the time of my stay, the hotel offered a FREE shuttle here every night around 7pm with pickup at 9 or so. Sign up with the concierge for this, it's worth a look around. I recommend taking a look at a website called shenzhen party if you want to find out whats going on around town before your trip. I have just returned from a three-night stay at Kempinski - Shenzhen at Nanshan District. The hotel is within the newly developed business district of Shenzhen and many overseas guest originally came from rather than local residents. The vicinity is not so wonderful since it is surrounded by residential flats, though tranquil and probably Shenzhen's quiet surrounding area night and day, the location is far enough from shooping, eateries, cultural, religious, edutaintment, or art. In and out to the city center has to ride taxi, however subway station is currently built within the vicinity of the hotel. The superior / deluxe room is spacious with modern touch, clean and neat. The bed is very comfort combined with 4 soft pillows. Shower bathroom has cold/hot water raindrop and bathtub. Bath amenities are complete, including shaving kit, toothbrush, sewing kit, comb, liquid shower cream, shampoo, hand body lotion and mouth wash. The room has mini bar and coffee/tea maker. Each day it has replenished 2 bottles complimentary mineral water and apples. The breakfast is a standard continental spread with cheeses fruits pastries noodles, omellette, breads, etc. Breakfast starts at 6:30 to 10:00 a.m. The hotel cannot arrange for free early breakfast at your room is a value down on service for executives having early flights. I did ask the manager on duty but he could not help much other than very sorry. Overall I would say this is probably a unique hotel in Shenzhen new business district of Nanshan. Perhaps not the most convenient if all you want to do is the crowded central area, but if you want to mix a little leisure time with the everythings offered in Shenzhen trip then this is one of the place to choose.

Kempinski is a very new hotel,nice toilet,good equipment.But I noticed that they are more friendly and with more smiles toward westerners,if u r yellow faced,don't expect much attention from them.Price is fair,but without breakfast,a pity.Definately worth staying for several nights.

There is just nothing better than service in Asia. From registration to check out, all was first rate. I did not even have to summon my own elevator. The room is nicely appointed with marble and granite. High thread count sheets make for luxurious speeping. I would definitely stay here again.

This is one of the few places I have ever stayed at where you can really leave your troubles behind and relax. Everything is take care of for you and you really will have no worry in the world. We arrived at the train station from Guangzhou. Taxis in Shenzhen are more expensive than taxis in Gaungzhou. In Guangzhou the meters start at 7 yuan and in Shenzhen, they start at 12.5 yuan. Although we hoisted our own bags into the back of the cab as the driver sat in his seat, he charged us the ½ yuan per “heavy” bag anyway. From the train it was less than 35 yuan. Upon arriving at the Kempinski, we were a bit disappointed with the bleak construction ridden area, actually not much different than any other place in a modern Chinese city. We were disappointed until we started to get out of the car and the magic of the Kempinski began. We were greeted by many uniformed people. There were uniformed people taking out our bags, opening doors, talking to us, showing us the way, and then there were uniformed people directing these people. We walked through a set of 20 foot doors into an oasis of the most extreme show of pure wealth that would make even the most elegant of Las Vegas hotels look bland. Marble, granite, hand blown glass, crystals, gold and silver, fountains, statues, silks and chaneeles covered and filled a lobby the size of half a football field. Everyone had their own monkey uniforms clean pressed bright and gleaming. Toothy smiles greeted us at every turn. From this moment on we could not left a hand to help ourselves if we tried. Getting our room was flawless at the counter. A uniformed lady guided us through the process and then to the elevators where another even toothier uniformed girl did her job by pushing the button to the elevator for us. We entered a gilded and mirrored elevator with rich dark woods and marbles, to the top 25th floor, where we were greeted by an armada of tailed butlers. Our cards were used by them to open our room door for us and we were ushered in to a plush clean ornate room with 15 foot ceilings, richly piled carpet, fully windowed back walls with huge curtains which opened and closed with the touch of a button. A flat screen adorned the wall across from the softly matressed king sized bed (the only one in China), and the bathroom was marbled and fit for a king. On the executive floor, there was free internet, free laundry, free breakfast, free snacks, and a free happy hour. Unlike the Dong Fang (seem my review) cup of Lipton tea and some old cookies this place had a stocked bar and a spread like a New York Jewish wedding. Butlers catered to your every need. We dropped our stuff in the room and went for a snack in the executive lounge. There, one butler poured our drinks and the other filled plates of food for us. I’m sure they would have fed us if we let them. One butler came and asked about our future plans and when they found out we did not have transportation yet, went about getting us transportation and tickets without us even asking. When our credit card did not work, “no problem sir, we have just added the cost of the plane tickets to your bill.” You could see some of Shenzen, miles, from the 25th floor. There was nothing but skyscrapers and new construction for miles. This hotel is now 6 months old and a real secret (until this review is read). The pool is spectacular as well is everything else in this hotel. There still is a cultural and language barrier but because of the Europeans and other Western staff, things are not as bad as they could be. We liked this hotel so much we almost changed our plans to stay here for the rest of the time we were in China.
