We came here for a wedding for a short stay.
The positives: Everything for the wedding arrangement was fabulous, the food exquisite, service excellent. The weather was incredible, with temperatures nice for sun tanning. We had the garden terrace room which had an incredible bathroom (both outdoor and indoor showers with large shower heads).
The Negatives: The water in the swimming pool was too cold regardless of the time of day. They should install heaters.
Our room only had one chair and table in the main bedroom area in front of the tv. severely needed a couch as the bed is covered with mosquito netting and doesnt allow casual sitting.
Had a bad experience at lunch time, went to one restaurant (the huts near the water), where only one cook and server was available. It took too long to cook a meal and make drinks. Also the staff here were lethargic and slow to respond. Went in the restaurant in the main building where I experienced the worse service in years - our fish was raw inside (later recooked the same portion but was cut in half); asked the waitress 3 times for an extra glass to share water bottle, but never received. It was strange, perhaps a bad shift as the morning staff serving breakfast were fab. Overall the staff/management need training to cater at Kempinski levels.
Lastly, the hotel transfer fees are too high, for a long shoddy ride on a bumpy trail. Plus the smell in the vehicles is pretty bad.

I have been to Zanzibar several times earlier but have only stayed in Stone Town. My visits have been linked to a longer work related stays inland in Tanzania. So the purpose of my brief stay was relaxation, good food and beach/swimming.
As others have commented on the Zamani grounds are immense and beautifuly landscaped. As mentioned the beach is about 1 killometer from the reception area. Transfer by minibus is easily available, at low tide it is also a short and pleasant walk along the beach.
My room was a garden room and all in all great. Furnishing and textiles could have been somewhat more colorful as the total impression was somewhat bland. Otherwise top rank fittings, great flat screen Sony TV. The oudoor shower is nice.
Food is very good in general. I stuck to the buffet breakfasts and dinners. At dinner the salads, desserts and seafood items were very tasty. Prices for wine and other beverages are high, almost at Norwegian levels.
The staff is very helpful with great concern for guests well-being.
I was able to avail myself of the special offer for April/June that provided half board for 150 Euros pr. night. This is very good value, the ordinary price of twice this would have been over my budget.

I agreed with my husband to visit Zanzibar Kempinski Hotel. Eventhough, we read some bad review about this hotel. Just to experienced we decide to stay for few days. We reserved a room which includes breakfast & dinner. The foods are really terrible, a lot of flies. The staffs standing at the corner doing nothing not even to help us or check the flies on the buffet.
It's true that the beach are quite far and very dirty. Nothing to do as they don't have the quality watersport's equipments for us to enjoy. The transport took us 45 minutes to wait, and we decide to walk back to the hotel. Quite boaring as they don't have much activities in the hotel. I asked one of the staff at the pool side about the activities outside the hotel but it seems he lack of knowledge and can't explain properly.
We informed the reception about our room with a lot of ants near the bed. But no response until my husband decided to washed it with hot water. The ground looks dirty a lot of leaves.
During our dinner, we noticed the staffs are not attentive, slow service and unhelpful.
Compare to other Kempinski, I think the management there need to take serious action about the staffs service and improve the facilities. It's not value for money.
