Nice room and clean, but bathroom needs a little updating. There was mold in the shower. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Good location! Nice stay for the price. Parking is expensive.

Hotel George is best

This was the best hotel experience I've had in years! I booked thru Expedia and with a 3 night stay received a free gas card. I even received the gas card in the mail before I left! Upon arrival, I asked to check in early - very little hesitation - it was allowed (I arrived at 1:30 PM and check-in is 3 PM). 2 Queen beds - fabulous layout with two windows to the street (E Street) below. LARGE closet and 4 drawers. Mattresses and pillows were firm and great. I requested foam pillows. Bathroom was out of this world for the price I paid. Separate tub and large walk-in shower with marble. Large vanity and no steam problem. Lots of plush towels. Halls were small and elevators were small. Fitness room much bigger (and equipment all worked!) than expected for this small hotel. Steam room available off fitness room - but I didn't have time to try it.
Free wine reception from 5-6 in the SMALL lobby, but the wine wasn't good - still reception was nice idea. Piano in the lobby, but I never saw or heard anyone playing. Only negatives: The Bistro adjacent was way over priced and just not special, the TV reception was sketchy at best and the A/C was louder than normal. Everything else was on a much higher level (including very friendly staff) and 150 yard walking distance from the Union Station! This is going to be where we stay every time we visit DC.
EXCELLENT

We chose the George for its location near to the Capitol and the metro at Union Station. We were very happy on both counts.
Disappointing start however when we were shown our room - a double, when we had booked a deluxe room with twin beds. And we had booked 6 months' before! However, we were able to move next day into the right room and were given a complementary bottle of wine by the front desk manager - she was most apologetic.
Room was very spacious with equally large and wonderfully equipped bathroom. Air con was incredibly noisy, so it stayed off - plus point however was that the windows actually opened and we had a very nice breeze of fresh air! We had one breakfast in the hotel - very good, but very pricey too - ditto the Bistro. No other restaurants nearby, but we knew this anyway from our research and other reviews. But plenty of choice at Union Station - excellent breakfast at the Station Grill!
Short walk to the Capitol, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Reflecting Pool and view down to the Washington Monument. Other monuments and museums walkable, but we often took the metro as the weather was pretty hot.
We discovered the Circulator bus by accident - only $1 - great value and started at Union Station up to Georgetown, with another route down to the quayside.
There were homeless people in the area, but they were no trouble at all. In fact we were struck by how courteous all public employees were (compared to the UK) and how Washington is so litter free - this despite hordes of tourists.
A very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend the hotel.
ps. Fire Station is just round the corner - beware!!
