We go to Amsterdam every year, and it's been difficult to find a good hotel at a reasonable price. Even so-called luxury hotels don't measure up to first class hotels in other cities. The Jolly Carlton was a very pleasant surprise.
Check in and overall service was great. We were even offered a free room upgrade. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was clean and modern with nice amenities..
The hotel is steps from the Rembrandtplein, around the corner from the flower market and a short walk to the Leisdeplein. Considering the location, it was fairly quiet as well..We'd definitely return.

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of May and couln't fault hotel.
25th wedding anniversaryso booked a deluxe room which had fantastic view over Muntplein.
Did not eat at the hotel but there are plenty of cafes within 5 minutes walk for breakfast etc.
Previous reviewers have mentioned the noise but despite overnight work on the road outside were not kept awake and indeed if you closed the windows you could not hear a sound.
Short walk from the hotel to everything Amsterdam has to offer.
Ate out most nights on Utrechsestraat which has bars and restaurants frequented by local amsterdammers unlike the tourist traps nearer the centre.

The location of this hotel is excellent, we were able to walk everywhere. The rooms are indeed a little on the warm side, there is air con but it's not all that effective. These rooms could perhaps get way too warm heading further into Summer. If the black out curtains are kept shut during the day it helps keep the room cool though. The service from the reception staff was very slow on check out but I did not find them to be rude at all. The waiters in the bar were very cheery and insisted in bringing us crudites every time we drank in there! I would def stay here the next time I go to Amsterdam. Special mention goes to the very cheery doorman - nice to see someone happy at work for a change!

How exciting, a couple of days to check out Amsterdam and figure out what to do next time you are in town with more time. If you need a hotel, I STRONGLY urge you to look elsewhere. I am sitting here writing this at 8AM after my 3rd sleepless night. When I say, sleepless, I mean sleepless. Seems the neighborhood is the center of a major partying district and they are at it until the sun comes up. I mean till 6AM, there is screaming, yelling, honking horns, police sirens and partiers in the hall way. If this is your idea of fun, have at it. The property is dated and funky, rugs in hallways are torn and unrepaired. Rooms are small and bathrooms are moldy and with hardware falling off the wall. This place needs to add double windows for noise, get security guards to calm down the party in the streets and hallways and NEVER put someone near the street side on a Thurs, Fri, or Sat night. Other nights it only goes until about 3AM. Front desk doesn't do anything and for your $300/night you are on your own and without sleep. Definetally DO NOT recommend this hotel until they fix their problems which is not likely.
