I've just come back from the plaza hotel and thought i would write a review.
i'll start off with the hotel.
In my opinion i would say the hotel had good points and bad points, i've travelled to many places in greece and have an open mind to hotel rooms etc i see it as you dont go on holiday to sit in your room all day so as long as is clean and tidy i'm happy.
Good Points
The hotel pool (not many sun beds) however its better that way as peaceful and friendly
pool was clean, tidy and surrounded in a well kept area
pool bar and restaurant was nice, staff friendly and food was good
breakfast ok (selected variety) but what do really eat at home? toast and cereal was perfect and also had sausages etc as well
Hotel in perfect location 10/10 for this, set back away from the main road and close to a lovely beach was peaceful and relaxing and couldnt ask for more!!
Bad Points
Hotel rooms not the best needs updating (however are clean) we had the room in the back block and on the ground floor, therefore on occasions did have bugs wandering around
had problems with key on arrival, the hotel system requires key to put electricty on, and ours didnt work so had to mention this a couple of times to reception b4 getting another (Room 132 isnt a good room so be aware)
also on the 4th day, when flushing the loo, sewage came up from the drain, which wasnt pleasant and smelt awful. we contacted reception to advise, and we were told some one would be on there way, an hour later still no one, so contacted reception again and by this time our room was flooded with urine and was also going into the corridor, by the time some one came, room and corridor was covered in fluid, took them awhile to find problem as they orignally thought it was the shower leaking over the side, but my partner tried explaining it was coming from the drain not the shower. we did get moved to another room (room 6) which over looked the pool and was a much better room so we were pleased with this.
Although this hotel did have its bad points, its not that bad i would go back, some rooms are much better than others and i think its a case of pot luck, the hotel manager was very helpful at all times, which made things alot less painfull.
in my opinion this hotel is ok, great location with a lovely pool, nice surroundings and nice staff, the hotel rooms could do with a makeover, the hotel lobby and pool are fine.
skiathos is a gorgeous place one of the best islands in greece i would say, very pretty and have some great beaches (like a postcard) i would defo go back to skiathos, as its perfect for couples and families, singles would be very bored.
the tavern next to the beach is a must, food was great and has great views, plus more peaceful than skiathos town so nice to relax.
by the way if you book with thomsons dont go on there trips as there not very good and over priced your best off going into town and booking through a company, plus they will have more to offer
well i could go on all day but i hope my review has helped.

We were collected promptly at the airport in the Plaza's own minibus. Late May/ June is hotting up nicely & it was lovely to see the familiar sights again as we wound our way up and along the road just 5 mins drive from the town centre. The Plaza is well designed and appointed, a 5 min walk to the main rd however, but buses are easy to catch from the junction. Plenty of space, a 100m from a small quiet beach & wonderful taverna/ bar that has a small wooden jetti - enabling the slightly pricey 4 euro per person e/way 10 min boat/taxi ride into the old town harbour! Really good fun. Road taxis are 9 euros each way but take 4 people of course. The rooms are basic, clean but showing their age a little. The beds are "firm" ! TV and fridge, big bathrooms & powerful shower. We got a lovely room overlooking the pool, the English are certainly in favour here, english is spoken well by all the staff & they are very attentive. Breakfast is varied & not bad for hotel grub. Don't expect a cracking english breakfast. Its Greece! Toast, bacon eggs etc are edible. But if you want cool yogurt, fruit & honey, continental style then its good. It's quiet & the view from the top restaurant is great. The pool is deep & big enough for everyone & there is a large kids pool that is safe & fun. The pool furniture is lovely, new & clean and the gardens are well tended & peaceful. A great place for older travellers & 20/30 - something couples to relax & unwind. Untill the screaming & shouting of under disciplined British children shatter the morning idyl. If its not school holiday time, leave them in school!
We hired a jeep through the hotel, cheaper than most rental places & great way to explore the southern beaches. If its necesary to retreat from the inflatable dolphins & force grinning parents around the pool, i suggest heading south, great beaches & facilities for adults & kids. The restaurants, shopping & night life in the town are great. The open-air clubs kick off in the high season. Recommended.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Plaza. There is a good late night bar, a good place to meet other guests & exchange trip details etc.
Try not to make the mistake of booking tours through the reps, they are not good value for money & you can see the island better with less crowds if you book down at the marina with a local tour/ guide. Plaza also has an outside restaurant/bar area open from end of June that looks great, although not open in May. We didn't bother with the small "gym" but the walking is fantastic.
I recommend this hotel for couples & families alike. Safe, clean & loads of room. If you want more peace & quiet, book as we did when the kids are in school, but families will have loads of fun - and the beach is clean & sandy, with a good bar.
We will be returning soon, probably with a noisy child.
Lovely holiday

After reading previous reveiws on this hotel after we had booked our holiday I wasnt looking forward in going, how wrong was I to think this!
We arrived to a very warm welcome from the reception staff and was allocated two ground floor rooms which looked right on to the swimming pool. The rooms were clean basic and what you should expect from a greece hotel of this rating. The veiw and position of our rooms were great and made our holiday, they were really handy being so close to the pool with children.
The food at the hotel was excellent. The breakfast is the best choice we,ve had in greece.everything from fresh fruit to full cooked english breakfast at no extra charge. Breakfast was served in a lovely rooftop restaurant with fab veiws over the bay.We also ate in the hotel at lunch time and a few evenings and the food was excellent.
The swimming pool was always kept clean and was ideal for small children.Even the sun loungers were quite luxerious nice wicker ones with cream padded cushions!
The only thing I was a bit disappointed about was the hotels courtesy mini bus it never moved the whole of the two weeks we were there! it just gathered dust! This then made our trips into Skiathos quite expensive as at 3euros per person each way and being four of us made it 24 euros per night for us to go to the town. The water taxi was a great service and it was a lovely way to start your evening off but if you could have used the hotels mini bus on some occasions especially in the day time if you needed the town it would have been better and less expensive. There is a very good bus service and very cheap but the promblem was that it is quite a long up hill walk to the bus stop from the hotel and our 4yr old didnt do this easily.
Overall we had a fab holiday here and will definately go back to this hotel.Skiathos is a great place with some of the best beaches we have seen and the sea here is as child friendly as you get.

The Plaza Hotel in Kanapitsa on the island of Skiathos has taken a bit of a slating from some people, but I can't praise it enough. My wife and I were looking for somewhere quiet, clean and friendly, and we got it. Ok, so it's not 'luxurious', the rooms being basic, but we have stayed in far worse hotels, besides, the place was clean, and just somewhere to sleep, which we did very well, every night. This was improtant to us as my Wife is Pregnant. The Hotel staff were very friendly, and the Manager was a really nice guy. The pool is great, and so is the pool bar and restaurant. There was only one concern: At this hotel you get breakfast. When we stayed there seemed to be a lot of wasps flying around the food and getting under the cling film. The Hotel needs to address this by thinking of better ways to present the breakfast, and ways of deterring the wasps. BUT, this does not ruin my opinion of the Hotel. I will definately be taking my child (when he or she is old enough). Skiathos town is brilliant!! Enough said. There is a Taxi boat that goes from the small , safe and quiet Kanapitsa beach straight to the Old Port of Skiathos town. A bit steep at 3 Euros perperson each way, but an amazing way to see the stars and the island at night.

Having read the previous reviews about this hotel (after having booked it) we were concerned that we had possibly made a mistake in our choice of hotel. This was not the case.
The hotel is three star and, as far as we were concerned, it more than covered the three star rating.
We made a point of asking for a front facing room - which we got without any problem. The room was very clean and bright and comfortable. Linen was changed on a very regular basis. The staff were exceptionally friendly. The grounds were well maintained and the pool very clean. We were on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast choice was more than adequate for our needs.
The location is perfect. A short flat stroll to the wonderful beach at Kanapitsa. We found the taverna on the beach to be the best in the area and although not cheap (nothing is any more!) the food and the service was excellent.
The ferry over to Skiathos Town, which runs from the jetty on the beach, is really nice.
This was the third time we have been to Skiathos and the Plaza was the best of the three hotels we have used. Everyones tastes are different, however we believe that the cost and star rating of hotels really need to be taken into consideration when writing reviews. We would recommend this hotel to our friends and anyone looking for simple, clean and friendly hotel in Skiathos.
