A basic hotel a 5 minute cab ride from the port. We pre booked in the UK and our reservaation was fine. The cost was low so we had minimum expectations.
The first room we were offered was totally unaceptable, it had not been serviced after the previous guest. To say it was disgusting is an understatement, and makes me wonder how anyone could leave a room the way they did. We rejected the room and showed the housekeeper the problems. I have to say I felt sorry for them carrying out the clean up. The front desk was apologetic and gave us another room. This room was clean and tidy, although extreemly hot. The air con was noisy so it was a choice ,cool and noisy or hot and quieter. The quiet was relative becase the room overlooked the road which seemed busy most through the night.
We were catching an early ferry so the purpose was to at least be horizontal for a few hours, so on that basis it did the job but no more. Would never consider staying more than one night, but have no expectation to sleep
The staff were helpful and very pleasant to us.

I was desperately searching accommodation in Athens for a year prior to Olympics in 2004, and the Glaros was the only hotel (out of 100s) that I wrote to, which offered accommodation at a reasonable rate. Many hotels multiplied their rates exhorbitantly and I came close to cancelling the trip. The Glaros even gave us a special rate for staying 10 nights. At still inflated Olympic prices it was not really worth the money, but the alternatives were ridiculously priced and impossible to book.
It is in Piraeus, which is handy for the ferries to the islands, but not very good for restaurants and bars. It was only 15 mins walk across the port to the station, with cheap and easy connections to the city and the coast.
The hotel itself had a small bar cum breakfast room, just off the foyer. Breakfast itself was buffet style and well presented.
The bedroom was clean but basic but the bathroom was a little too basic with a hand held shower.
All the staff were lovely and made our stay a very happy one.
Transport is very cheap and easy in Athens and as a bed for the night, one could do far worse than the Glaros, especially if catching a ferry.
