Stayed here for 3 nights in May 08. It is a lovely hotel. The rooms are situated around a balcony and look from the outside like a Southern States Plantation House. Very tastfully laid out. The pool area was lovely with palms around it. The restaurant offered the 'hot rock' cusine. This is a rock that is heated to a very high temperature and placed in front of you and you cook your own steak etc on it to your liking. Really good! There was a fitness room in the basement and guest laundry facilities. My only complaint was that the pillows were like bricks and impossible to sleep on. Hotel is in a great location only 5 minutes walk from the Esplanade and all the restaurants on the 'front' where you can eat quite cheaply or more up market as you choose.

Liked its appearance! Inexpensive. Short walk to town & restaurants. Restaurant at hotel very busy with tours & had to wait half an hour once in (poor waiters). Food good.
Friendly welcome. Internet in lobby, but had to chose before using how long we wanted: why are sleazy internet cafes so much better than hotels in Australia?
Very noisy airconditioning & fan squealed so couldn't use that - luckily cool enough to open window.

I was looking for a nice hotel - not the usual high rise ones and this fitted the bill perfectly. I booked through wotif and got a good rate. On arrival the front desk person greeted us without a smile (although it was 6am). I was told 3 times that check in wasn't until 2pm which I was aware of and simply asked what time they thought I could check in (having just come in off an international flight). A few taps on a keyboard later, I was advised that we could check in straight away! This is what service is all about - if it's do-able, then why not do it. Made up for the lack of smile. The room was nice & large enough. Smelt freshly painted and the decor was new. Huge bed - very comfy. Great bathroom amenties and the shower was powerful. The coffee cups were a decent size also. Everything worked well, it was clean & comfy and in a good location. It also catered to smokers with chairs and table with ashtray on the balcony at the front of your room. Recommended.

We spent two nights at the Hotel Cairns. The hotel staff were very friendly and the room was great.
The location of the hotel was very good - only a short walk from most amenities.
Overall I would say this is the best hotel that we stayed in during our time in Australia, and I would highly recommend it.

We stayed here for a few nights, and really thought it was a cute hotel. We took advantage of the location - easy walking access to everything; and the on-property offerings - the pool and laundry. The room itself was a great size for two people - very large with plenty of space for luggage, etc., and our room had a sitting area and balcony (wasn't noisy at all!). The bathroom was a bit cramped and oddly designed, but I guess that's part of the charm? The pool area was somewhat small, but it was never overly crowded, so we were able to secure the 1 or 2 chairs we needed. The staff was helpful and arranged our taxi back to the airport, offered some dining suggestions, etc. We booked the hotel online, and got a great deal. Either way, we would definitely stay here again.
