My husband and I and another couple recently stayed at The Borg for 5 nights. We loved the location - right on the square near lots of restaurants and clubs. It does get a bit noisy on weekends late at night if you face the front but with the windows closed it was not too bad. It did get a little warm with the windows closed and we never located the thermostat. The rooms are very sleek and updated, and ours (on the 4th floor) was very spacious and comfortable (except they have a closet and two shelves but no dresser). The Breakfast buffet was adequate- breads, fruit, juice, yogurt, cereal, and eggs and bacon.. We weren't thrilled with the housekeeping service -- you have to ask for extra towels and there is no turndown service. The daytime concierge was quite helpful with getting reservations at restaurants and making calls for us to confirm our expeditions. I would recommend you eat at FishMarket and Orange restaurant and try the tasting menus. THey were very special meals.

This hotel had been recommended to us by another couple and we weren't disappointed. We stayed in a suite which was fabulous. The hotel is very stylish. The room was very clean and all of the staff were really helpful and polite.
The only downside is the noise. The room was warm and so we had the windows open in the evening and as the hotel is on the main square, it was quite noisy at night, and we weren't there over a weekend when I imagine it is a lot worse.
Overall we had a great stay and would recommend the hotel.

We were very much looking forward to our stay in this well-know "art deco gem" in the heart of Reykjavik. We were disappointed to find the street in front of the hotel blocked off when we arrived. I ran in to ask reception what to do, and they said, "Try to find a parking place." There is no hotel parking, so we roamed for almost an hour, and ultimately hauled our bags on foot. The lobby is a bit cluttered and we had to step around several men doing some kind of messy construction work in the hallway. There is one VERY tiny elevator, which only carries two people (max) with luggage. The stairs were not vaccumed the entire time during our three day visit. There are no drawers and no real closet in the room (only a hanging bar), so we had no place to store our empty suitcases and I put my folded clothes on the wide window sill. Our room faced a lovely park, but it is the Reykjavik tradition to stay up very late and party hard. Having arrived with some jetlag from California, we were not very happy to have loud singing, lauging and shouting outside our window until 5am each night.
I would suggest finding a hotel away from the main town square, a hotel with parking, a closet, and better management. When we checked out, I asked if we could store our bags for a couple of hours, and the receptionist handed me a key, pointed to a closet and told me to put my bags in it. The closet was already unlocked when we put our bags in it, we put our luggage in and locked it, gave her the key, yet it was unlocked again and unsupervised when we returned to get our bags. Sloppy mangement with little care given to the security of our belongings. There is free internet in the lobby! We had heard that the Hotel Borg breakfasts weren't special, so we ate elsewhere. Having said all of this, we truly loved Reykjavik, loved our daily hikes and drives and lovely meals. Iceland is a magical location and you will have a great time!

The price did not reveal that this is a four star hotel. But the interior do! Its like stepping into a Hercule Poirot-movie. I loved this Art Deco hotel. The breakfastbuffet was not worth the money though. Try Cafe Paris across the street instead. Cool bar and small library, but no gym.
Take some earplugs

Positives
1) The hotel and rooms echo art deco charm, with fantastic furniture and fittings. It has a very stylish feel to it.
2) We got upgraded after one night from a superior double to a suite, which was beautiful.
3) Iceland has beautiful scenery.
Negatives:
1) Unless you are stone deaf, then don't expect to sleep on a friday or saturday night. It doesn't matter whether your room is at the front or back of the hotel, you might as well try and sleep on the bar the one of the clubs on the streets below.
2) In case you didn't already know, Iceland is seriously expensive. Expensive is fine if you are getting high quality to go with it, but you aren't, you're just paying 2-3x as much for ordinary things. You can never quite stop thinking what you could buy for the same money in some other part of the world.
