Definitely a bit odd

I had to keep reminding myself that I got a good deal on this hotel room. The price was fine. The hotel was odd. Parking is across the street in a public parking lot with an attendant. The attendant isn't 24 hours so you can't move your car after hours. You must put a sign, provided by the hotel, on your dashboard to avoid getting a parking ticket afterhours. It does have a nice lounge on the first floor with a fully stocked bar and limited menu. The hotel is old, I believe they call it "historic". I call it old. My room was decorated very oddly with fake flowers and a bird house. The carpet was worn. It has old-style elevators which some might find charming. The location is good and walking distance from many many interesting shops. It's not near any major freeways. You'll have to drive through town to reach it. I wasn't reminded of New Mexico at all. This hotel could have been in the middle of Detroit. I would have preferred something more in keeping with the look and feel of Santa Fe and it's rich heritage.

The location of this hotel is wonderful. You can park your car and walk to the sites. Their parking lot is very small so you have to often park across the street in a public lot which they validate your ticket. Parking costs $5 a day. It is very close to the plaza and the Palace of the Governors. Wonderful restaurants are just around the corner.
We had difficulty with the shower and reported it three times, but it was never fixed. The rooms are small. The concierge never looked up from her computer to give us assistance. The desk help could be quite condescending if you weren't dressed the part.. It was also difficult to get a bellman to assist with luggage. You have to carry luggage up 6 steep steps prior to using the elevator.
The location is great tho!

The hotel is perfectly situated one block off the town square. True, it is an old hotel, but that is part of the charm. Staff was friendly enough. We had a large room (115) which, judging from some of the other reviews I've read, must be the exception rather than the rule.
The bathrooms are a little odd -- the sink is in the bedroom and the shower/tub and toilet are in a separate room. I could never get hot water to the sink and concluded the hot water handle was decorative only! A bit annoying but I never got around to inquiring into the problem.
The rooms do have small refrigerators, irons, hair dryers and coffee makers.
I did not see a computer for use by guests.
Another reviewer mentioned inconsistency -- we had chocolates and turn down service on the last night of our four night stay only. Not sure if we got skipped the other 3 nights or its only done on a guest's last night....
Didn't eat at the restaurant so can't comment.
The hotel does have a great location; parking is $5 per night. Its not the Westin, if that's your preference. But, its reasonably priced and adequate.

I just stayed at the Hotel St. Francis for 6 nights. When you check in, there is a sign stating that in 2000 the hotel was named one of the 50 best hotels in the world. With a lead-in like that they are only setting guests up to be disappointed. And to some extent, I was.
First the good: The location is great, just a block or two from the Plaza and across the street from Cafe Pasqual, one of the best restaurants anywhere. The staff were helpful and friendly. The bed was comfortable and the decor was nice.
Next the bad: The odd inconsistency. Two nights out of six my bed was turned down with chocolates near the pillow. I have no idea why it was just those two nights - I was always out until 9pm or so and never had the Privacy sign on the door. I did not have bottles of water waiting in my room at check-in, but several people in our group did. Some people in our group got turn down service more often than I did. Some never got it at all. There was a paper at my door every day - that was about the only constant at the hotel.
The rooms are very, very small - at least mine was. I had a double bed and 2-3 feet of clearance around the bed and that was about it. The shower was tiny and dark.
I had to do some work while at the hotel and brought my laptop and a printer. There is a small desk that's fine for a laptop, but there were no open outlets anywhere near the desk. Once I unplugged the coffee maker I had an outlet for my computer, but not the printer. So I had to place the printer in the middle of the room, plug it in near the sink and then run the USB cable the rest of the way to the computer. I guess it's a good thing that the room was small! The WiFi worked well and was free, it would just be nice if there was a power strip near the desk.
Overall a nice place, just not one of the best in the world. If you don't mind a small room and inconsistent service, it's a good place to stay.

This is a delightful older hotel, and an excellent value. Location near the plaza is very good in such as nice walkable town. We had a "garden queen" which was fairly small - but not as small as some New York Hotels and roomy enough for us. It was a corner room, light and bright and charmingly decorated with a garden theme. Hotel service is very classy and quite old-fashioned, with a charming concierge, beds turned down, fluffy towels and bathrobes. We enjoyed ourselves enormously walking around to see the sights then coming back to a very comfortable, charming and welcoming environment. I notice I've used the word "charming" at least three times in this review, but I'm not editing it out - it sums things up beautifully. And a bargain to boot!
