Average Shanghai business hotel 2km south west from People square. In my opinion a good solution for whoever is looking for a clean hotel, quiet at an affordable price. Service is good, english speaking personal. The breakfast is above average.
The main weakness is the swimming pool and fitness room. The best is to consider that there is none.

This is a modern hotel in an unfashionable but convenient part of Shanghai.
The rooms are large with good furniture and a very good bathroom. There is a small kitchenette albeit with no microwave and a handy anteroom with a table and chairs.
There was a fast broadband connection.
Housekeeping, laundry and cleanliness are first class.
The overall attitude of the staff is to be friendly and helpful to the point of being ingratiating, not comfortable to a European traveller but required by some oriental travellers who were witnessed in treating the staff unkindly.
I have rarely had so many bobs and bows. All this was somehow cancelled out by the overall absence of English throughout the hotel. The F & B manager was an exception but the front desk English standard was lamentable. Thats not to say that they were anything but courteous and trying very hard.
The breakfasts gave every appearance of a traditional English Breakfast but without carrying it off.
All this was more than compensated by the extreme helpfulness of the very young waitresses [they looked to be about 13 years of age]. By the end of my first week, they were anticipating my every move and fetching me articles from the buffet before I had even thought about it. It occurred to me that in reality, they were training me.
Eating in at the hotel is something of an adventure. I passed over the two pages of fish-head meals [no actual fish dishes] and swiftly passed on the stewed bullfrog and bullfrog in spicy sauce. I settled for sauteed celery with water lily roots and beef with noodles and repeated this three times during my stay. It was excellent. I inspected the bullfrogs in their tanks outside the restaurant every morning. They were blowing smmall frothy bubbles of resentment. I did notice a decline in their numbers over the two weeks that I was there.
There are many restaurant snearby and on my third visit to Shanghai, I thought the area was very convenient and perhaps better than other areas that I had stayed in
As an inexpensive and relaible base to work from it was very good and I would certainly stay there again in the future.

A group of 6 people rented three rooms for the period 19-24 April, and then 4 people stayed yet another night between 25-26 April in this place.
During checkout on the 24th, one of our rooms was quite full with boxes, bags and suitcases. In this chaotic situation one of the cabin bags was left either inside the room or outside the room, but not with us. Returning to the hotel later that day, we realized that this bag is missing. To make a long story short:
- it took two hours to convince hotel personnel to look for this bag, which then was found partly emptied
- the hotel acted very rudely towards us, like it was our fault
- despite our repeated attempts we never received any papers enlisting the damage we suffered. We finally received a Chinese-language fax which is probably the Shanghai Police notice of the events.
- the hotel made us feel like idiots and to make matters worse upon our return, one of the bellboys dropped a suitcase and damaged another.
My advice is to avoid this hotel, there are so many other nice, clean hotels around!

Wir waren insgesamt 6 Leute, die vom 19. bis 24. April drei Zimmer belegten.
