So, I went on vacation to Europe as a school band field trip and was having a great time until my stay at this hotel. Because I am from America, I used a calling card to call relatives back home. I know that some calling cards charge the individual rooms, so I checked with the front desk before I used it, and the lady that helped me told me that it would not charge, and that if for some reason it did she would clear the charge no question about it. After using the card for a matter of minutes, she claimed I charged up a 45 Euro phone bill, and would not clear it. When I asked to speak with the manager she told him that she had never talked to me before hand. I wound up having to pay the bill, because otherwise it would charge our tour group, which meant I had less money to use for souvenirs on this once in a lifetime experience.
Also, might I add that the hotel room was very hot, and even though my room mate and I set it to 5 degrees C, we still could not seem to reach a comfortable temperature. There are other hotels in the area, do not stay at this one.

Noisy but nice

Beautiful room but could use a mattress "makeover". Street side room was very noisy from outside. Staff was responsive and friendly. The piazza on which it is located is under construction and limits the beauty. Woould stay there again.
Wonderful Stay

Came here with my mother, we had a wonderful time! It was centrally located and we could walk to just about everything. The staff was friendly and helpful in directions and arranging tours for us. The breakfast was very good. It is right on the square which has a lot of traffic and activity into late at night, but we had no problem falling asleep.

Hotel Roma is a very poor hotel. I don’t know how it got a 4 star rating with Hotels.com, but it is no such thing. I would rate Hotel Roma a one star, and that is being generous. We spent 3 nights during a very warm week in Oct. I estimate the room temperature at about 90* or more at check-in. Of course we attempted to turn on the air conditioner to cool it down and it didn’t work. I called the front desk 3 times that evening to complain and I was told a different lie each time, that it was broken, or the street repair outside damaged the cooling system, or it could not be fixed but a repair man would come in the morning and I would be moved to a new room in the morning. We were told to open the window without a screen, so the mosquitoes came right inside the room resulting in many bug bites. (I also found a flea jumping on the nightstand. The widow opened up to a common patio area, not safe at all, so one of us had to stay awake for protection when ever the window was open. And it was intolerable to close the window for more that 15 min. at a time. It was a very bad night and neither of us got any sleep, which meant the following days activities had to be cancelled due to our exhaustion. I had to make a big fuss in the morning, and I was told we would be moved to a room with air conditioning if we would leave our bags packed in the room, so we complied. Returning to the hotel, I was told that moving to a different room would not fix the problem because it was not broken. I was told that the manager turned the air conditioning off and refused to turn it back on until a fuss was made. So they agreed to turn it back on for the following two nights. I paid close to $250 per night to stay in what I thought would be a comfortable hotel, but it’s a dive. Every time we turned water on to shower, the sewer water came up out of the floor drain and flooded the bathroom with waste water. The grout around the tub was moldy and dirty and the maid never cleaned the tub or toilet while we were there (we cleaned the toilet ourselves). The water out of the tap is discolored and stinks (but I kind of think it’s that way all though Florence, it’s a really dirty place by American standards). I paid far too much for this one star hotel, and the manager refused to adjust the bill for the first night of sleepless hell that we endured. This is one of those hotels where they want American money, but they are rude and discourteous in return. Don’t stay here.
