Experience Malta
Guest name: WashingtonPhilV, Washington
The British Hotel is right on the waterfront of the Grand Harbour in old Valletta. Night or day there are ships moving by. The views from the hotel's rooftop terraces of the fortifications and churches and other great architecture are beautiful.
Every morning at eight we were awakened by the bells from four different churches. Each one was a little off and not exactly at eight so it lasted for a while. A nice breakfast is served and people actually talk to one another and compare notes on tours and activities.
There is nothing new and shiny about the British Hotel but that is part of its charm and part of the charm of Malta. I think that the British is the oldest hotel there so if you want new and shiny you need to go to Las Vegas. It is comfortable and friendly, and learn to say "Bongu" in the morning and you will fit right in.
We bought a nice little painting from one of the staff who paints on the side. What a great memento to have sitting on the piano to remind us of our trip.

We stayed at this hotel on the last night of our week long stay in Malta the hotel is basic with no real facilitys in your room the staff were very helpful and assisted us with our luggage. This made the journey in the lift very cosy with myself my wife the porter and two cases the lift has been added as a afterthought and is approx. four foot square but it did the job.The view from the room is fantastic looking over grand harbour .When you consider the hotel is slap bang in the middle of the capital city it was reasonbly priced and there is a lot of parking nearby this may not be the case in the height of summer The centre of Valletta is approx 1/4 of a mile up a very steep hill which may not suit the elderly or disabled visitor although my wife has a false leg but managed easily to make the climb to the city centre. We ate in the hotel in the evening the food was ok but a bit limited The view from the restaurant was brillant

Since the lift was out of order, we 2 old women had to go up the staircases to the 5th floor with our luggage. The hotel staff didn't help us.
We asked a wake-up call and they promised to call us at 7 but the next morning they didn't. We complained but they said only "It's strange." and never apologized.
The water was not hot enough.
They didn't have any postage stamp.
