OK Hotel, but less than optimal location

The Dynasty Hotel gives a very nice first impression in the lobby. The nice impression continued into the room, which was reasonably spacious, and everything in the bathroom worked well and was clean. We had a view of the wall from the balcony of our room. The breakfast was about standard for hotels in China. Overall, our experience was that it is a nice hotel and pretty good value.
However, even though the city wall runs right along the back of the hotel, it is far from anything of interest to a visitor in Xian. It is not within walking distance of any of the sights or sites a tourist might be interested in, so I cannot recommend it unless you have a specific reason to be in the Dynasty's neighborhood. Xian is a very lively city in the evenings, with a lot of people in the street in the center of town, but the Dynasty is far from the lively part of town.

We booked this because the photo looked nice and it was supposed to be close to the old part of the city. The hotel was OK. The rooms were clean and comfortable and it was in fact right around the corner from the walls of the old city.
However, the hotel is really located on the wrong side of the old city and it is quite a long long walk to get to the real old quarter. There are plenty of other hotels at a similar price range that have a much better location.
The breakfast was not good and pretty expensive. The staff were polite and eager to help, but the English was not very good at all. We asked to book a car to see the Terra Cotta Soldiers and it required a call to the manager at home for them to understand what we were talking about. This was typical everywhere in China and could be quite frustrating. But they did arrange for the trip and were always happy to try and help with any concerns we had.
So overall, I would say it was a decent place to stay, nothing special. But when we came back to Xian a week later and stayed in a hostel on near the Bell Tower and enjoyed it much more.

When booking the Dynasty on the net, there were beautiful pictures of the hotel, hence the reason for booking.
Upon arriving in Xian, we got a good first impression of the hotel as the lobby was beautiful.
However, upon entering our room, we were too quick to judge as the room was tiny and needed much improvement.
There were problems with the bathroom- the toilet kept making noises and the shower was like having a shower in drizzle.
I think that the hotel only cares about first impressions, as it only advertises pictures of the beautiful parts of the hotel- hence the lobby and not of the old dirty rooms.
If i were to ever travel to Xian again, i will definatley not be staying at the DYNASTY!!!!
