Lodz, in general, is not the most exciting place to visit (one only goes if required.... not because it's a tourist destination). The entire city is in serious need of sand blasting and pressure cleaning. Having said that, there are many interesting buildings and it looks like the kind of city that might be okay to live (if you're a local). Certainly they're enjoying a big economic boom.
The Ibiz Hotel is right in the center of the city and from there it is easy to go out and see what there is to see. It is modern, and provides the necessary amenities. They do charge for internet access via "Orange", but you can get by for less than $10 for a couple of days if you are just trying to replicate your email and surf for an couple of hours total.
The breakfast was excellent, and the staff friendly. If you're staying in Lodz, I definitely recommend the Ibis.
My ratings for this hotel are:
5.0 Check in / front desk
3.0 Business service
3.0 Value
5.0 Service
4.0 Rooms
5.0 Location
5.0 Cleanliness
Seems to be the best available.

I stayed Lodz in March 2007. After quite a bit of searching on the websites I booked Hotel Centrum. As the name suggests it is centrally located. It's a 3 star and is quite basic. I stayed in a single room. It was small and had a dated interior with a number of repairs having been carried out over the years with varying degrees of success. However, everything worked and the room and en suite were clean and functional. Surprisingly there are only net curtains on the windows so it was bright from early in the morning.
The common areas in the hotel are spartan and functional.
The breakfast was good - good selection of cereals, juices, fruit, cold meats and cheeses, bread, pastries etc along with some choices for a hot breakfast.
The reception spoke good English and were professional if unfriendly.
There is an office area which proved useful - about three people can use it and there is no charge. WiFi is available in the reception area, dining room but only on about a quarter of the floors - be sure and ask when reserving if this is important to you.
