Bad hotel, poor value

We just returned form the trip to Prague. It is a marvelous city with many sights to see and attractions to visit. We will go there again and again, but we will never stay at Hotel U Stare Pani again.
We decided to stay there because of location. We wanted to be in the center of old town within a walking distance of every major attraction. Location was very good indeed. It is next to Old Town Square, we walked to Prague Castle, to Charles Bridge, to Josefov, to Wenceslas Square. Metro is 3 minutes away; tram is 4 minutes away, all great restaurants and theaters are within a short walking distance from this hotel.
However, with location ends everything good we can say about this hotel. The rest is terrible. For 120 Euro a night in October (which supposedly a great discount rate and regular price is 144 Euro), it was the worst hotel and the worst service we ever had on 4 continents.
All you can do when you stay in this hotel is walk and sightsee around Prague for 20 hours a day, because you have to force yourself to go into that room. You have to exhaust yourself before you can lie in that bed. Hotel U Stare Pani is rated 3 stars. In Chicago, the worst and seediest motel that charges by the hour would provide better service and accommodations than that in 3 stars hotel in Prague. There is no elevator, rooms are tiny, linens are changed once a week, they do not vacuum or wash floors if you stay for less than a week, there is no central air, no fan, no blow dryer, no iron. There is a small TV in the room with no remote control and broken buttons so you cannot watch it anyway, there is no radio, no clock, no safety box in the room. Beds are a separate story - there are 2 twin size beds in a double room, there is no mattress, you sleep on a wooden platform with padding 3 inches thick, and this padding is so lumpy and curvy that you feel like you are lying in a sinking hole. Breakfast that is included in the price is bad, mostly bread and preserves, no fruits no vegetables no juice. We made reservations for 5 nights, after the first night we wanted to move to another hotel, but they told us that we have to pay for 5 night anyway becasue that is the reservation we have made, and they had our credit card number, so we were forced to stay. Next time we will stay at Radisson, Marriott, or Best Western that are near by. No more local hotels for us.
A jem in the heart of Prague

My boyfriend and I stayed at U Stare Pani Dec. - Jan. 2004 and had a wonderful stay! The hotel is charming and located on a quiet, beautiful cobblestoned road in the heart of Prague. Our room was large, very clean, and had all the amenities we needed. The bathroom was new and there was never a lack of hot water or water pressure. We had French doors onto a small balcony overlooking the typical narrow Prague street, which is so European and charming! Breakfast was served daily and always fresh and delicious! The staff was very attentive and polite and always helpful, whether it was with carrying our bags to our room or calling a taxi for us. They spoke English and were always smiling. Next time I return to Prague, I am definitely staying at U Stare Pani!
