Rented two rooms for my family of 4--a superior double and standard twin. Overall the hotel was much better than expected for a 2 star property! I also had 4 business associates that stayed here with me and they were all very pleased with the hotel. There is still some renovation going on so sometimes it was a little noisy during the day, but then we weren't spending the daytime in our rooms! The room's renovation seemed complete, and they were very nice--the double was very large for a typical European hotel room and the twin was a good sized. The beds in both were excellent. The location is outstanding--around the corner from 2 metro/RER lines, easy walking distance to Notre Dame and many other sites (we do a lot of walking, and even the Louvre was an easy walk). it is surrounded by an enormous number of restaurants--we found oursleves returning to the area for dinner very night just due to the broad variety and quality of restaurants. The streets are very active at night, providing a lot of entertainment, but the rooms were quiet enough to sleep well. The hotel staff were all courteous and extremely helpful too. Overall this is a very good hotel and great value!

We stayed for 6 nights in a charming room with french doors and a small balcony overlooking the busy side street. The location is perfect (Metro/RER/seine/Notre Dame) to experience Paris, but the latin quarter can be loud, so keep that in mind. For us, the balcony doors sealed tight so we could easily stop any street noise.
Americans who are unfamiliar with European 2 star hotels may have issues with this and any similar hotel, but in my opinion, the Sain Severin exceeded my expectation.
If you're looking for a central place to stay in a lively neighborhood that's friendly and easy to get to, than this hotel is the perfect home base for your parisian adventure.
However, if you have kids with you, or you plan to spend a lot of time in your roon, or require amenities and services, book at a Hilton or similar chain hotel.

I am not sure all the reviews are true on this hotel.
The beds are comfortable, but as an asthmatic feather pillows and duvets are a no no and they could not accomodate me with syntethic ones so i was wheezy all weekend, plus it is clean but a bit old and dusty which didnt help me at all.
The hall areas leading off to the bedrooms are disgraceful to be honest and could do with a major overhall..
The reception area is nice but small and they do good Pizza in the restaurant.. Its also an easy to find place....
Originally we had a refurbished room which was a shoebox and dusty even though newly done( Bizzare!!). We moved rooms as i wasnt happy with the first one, but I had only asked for the room to be cleaned, we were told that was not possible so they moved us to one that was not refurbished and it was dreadful: bigger, dirtier and a bit sad looking (point of story dont change rooms you will be punished)..but at least we could walk around the room without falling over the bed like in the reburbished one.
The old room also had a shower that you could stand up in as the reburbished room there was only a bath and a hose and no shower curtain so you would have to sit in the bath, not very practical really..
If your staying make sure its on the 2nd floor so you can get a balcony otherwise its not good value and the rooms are also a little biggger on that floor ..They seem to be proud of that floor, maybe its the only one truly finished..we obviously were no where near this floor...
I thought the staff were stressed out, overworked and a little rude, but I suppose thats Paris.
All in all I dont think the hotel was good value and was a bit dissapointed as the reviews made the place seem like it would be good value and at the most I expected it to be clean, friendly and comfortable which I am sad to say wasnt any of these.
It was in an ok location but I have to say their are nicer ones if you are on a budget like i was. St Severin is a little cheesy, all mediocre french restaurants that overcharge you (beware the free drinks) and full of pickpockets..Also beware of sitting outside to eat in this area, my mobile was stolen from a restauarant table and it was gone so quick I have no idea who took it...my partner was convinced it was the waiter!!!!! You really need to watch your posscesions in Paris, I think it is worse now than Barcelona which seemed to be the consensus of other travelers we met.
You can get better in Paris for 150 euro a night...its less than a 2 star in our eyes...and if i went back to Paris I would be staying in a different location.... most likely near the St Germain area where you get a better class of restaurants for a better price...
