Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Villafranca for 3 nights - we used the Terravision bus to get from Ciampino to Termini and the hotel is about 5mins walk from the train station. Hotel is clean and efficient. Bedrooms aren't enormous but plenty of storage space and how much stuff do you take for a weekend away? Bathroom clean and modern, complete with good size power-shower which was a bonus. Location is OK, everything bar the Vatican City is walkable from the hotel, although nothing is exactly close by (Colosseum was about a half hour walk, same for Spanish Steps etc in other direction) - but then with easy access to both Metro lines, which we found very efficient the couple of times we used them, if you don't fancy a long walk in the heat there's no problem getting places. I have no complaints about the hotel whatsoever (didn't even experience the runny eggs at breakfast a few people have mentioned lol!), however it was a little out of the way.

Having read other reviews, my wife and I booked this hotel with some trepidation. Having been there, I can honestly say that there was nothing to worry about. I apologise for the length of this review but some would like a full review of this place. Someone complained about it being too close to the Castro Pretorio Metro station but that is an excellent selling point for any visitor!!! We loved the fact that it was so near to the Metro as the last thing we wanted after a long day visiting (and walking!) the various tourist sites was a long walk/bus ride back to the hotel. My wife is 6 months pregnant and did not find it a problem to walk to the Termini train station even though she did not initially believe me when I said it was walking distance. The hotel room was an adequate size for two but we were hardly in there as we were out enjoying the sites and so will you too. Two things to note though - I can confirm the bed is quite firm (ok, hard!) but some seem to like it that way; second, try to get a room with a view that doesnt overlook the back of someone else's home. We had absolutely no view and what little there was was overlooking some building work going on next door! Needless to say, we just get the windows closed and switched on the air-conditioning. There is satellite tv with the usual channels ie CNN, BBC world, eurosports but no sky sports ;-( Breakfast was plentiful (yes, runny eggs but we got used to it). The bathroom was lovely with new towels and beddings everyday. Lovely restaurant on the street right behind the hotel (Trapetoria or something, reception give you a card which gets you 10% off!) and supermart at the end of the road on the other side of the road. All in all, I would stay there again as it was great value for the money.

I was not completely satisfied with the hotel location because it's too close to the train station where lots of people hovering around and a bit far from all the attractions. But the good thing is that couple of restaurants in the neighborhood are pretty good. The room was not fancy but clean, I would say the price is fair with this rating in Rome. People there were very nice, they even prepared the breakfast basket to go for us due to our 'way' early flight schedule. That's very sweet !!
