Beautiful Hotel not that far from Florence

We booked this hotel thanks to a good last minute deal on Expedia, to spend there the last days of 2006.
We spent three days in Florence, coming back to the hotel just to sleep, and I have to say it's not that far, even if the road is not a highway for sure!
the hotel is located near the village onf Tavarnelle, not one of the most famous of the Chianti region and indeed not nice as the most renown ones. But the hotel itself is very nice, our room was a very large one, extremely comfortable and charming; bathroom wide and clean; excellent breakfast; staff is really friendly. Definitely it deserves it stars (which happens not so often in Italy's hotels).
We did not taste the restaurant but we heard it's quite good.
I would definitely recommend this hotel eiher if you plan to visit mainly Florence, and\or if you are sightseeing Tuscany in general. A car is of course needed.

Good sized rooms, very clean hotel

We stayed here for 3 nights and were impressed with the size of the room and the cleanliness. Bathroom also a good size. We had room 111 which had a little garden/terrace overlooking the countryside and a water tower. Pool nice but road traffic whizzing past. It is not in the countryside rather, on the outskirts of the town. Good location for going to Siena or Florence.
When we arrived the girl and boy on reception were entirely unfriendly which was strange compared to the service we had had throughout Tuscany. The girl also could not answer any questions about weather, or serve drinks at the bar. Breakfast staff were, however, very pleasant. Breakfast buffet is reasonable but let down by the appalling sugar loaded "fresh" orange juice..
Overall it was a lovely hotel with a convenient (but not entirely pretty) location.

What a lovely hotel and friendly staff. It was a very comfortable stay at Hotel Borgo Di Cortefreda Relais, it was a shame we were only there 1 night. Its a very new hotel (open only 2 months) so the fitness centre, sauna and steam rooms were not quite ready. The swimming pool looked great (it was May, too cold to actually go swimming) and there was plenty of sun loungers around. Wish we could have stayed longer and would go back for sure.
