Given the current state of the US Dollar this was a value oasis in the heart of Italy. The room was comfortable and bathroom large. Included breakfast was one of the best we had Italy. The staff was friendly and helpful. Made a great restaurant recommendation. Hotel is close to both the A1 and main rail line between Milan and Bologna.

I've stayed at this hotel twice, the last time on New Year's Eve 07/08. The staff are friendly and the breakfast is good with a sweet and savoury selection and even some nice cakes and freshly squeezed orange juice. On New Year's Eve they even left the breakfast out a little longer and then I saw them serve some people who were really late at the small bar next to the check in counter for free.
The rooms are modern and tastefully designed. It's a Holiday Inn Express so it's meant for a limited stay and there's no wardrobe, only a small rack with hangers. The TV has a lot of channels. The bathroom is spacious, the only thing I don't much like in the Holiday Inn Express chain is the soap that comes out of a container stuck to the wall. I know it saves them money but sometimes the containers are hard to squeeze and IMHO having to grab the container is not as hygienic as having your own little bar of soap. I'm sure one can request a separate bar, I was just too lazy to do so. There's always a helpful note in the bathroom asking whether they can get you things that you may have forgotten.
The hotel is meant for a business client?le and is accordingly out of town and near the motorway (but not noisy at all). Beware when exiting the parking lot since cars come both ways and the exit is on a bend which makes it impossible to see oncoming cars in your same (right) lane.

Holiday Inn Express is located in the outskirt of Reggio Emilia, in front of a big shopping mall. The hotel is very modern: rooms are spacious and very well equipped (LCD TV, coffee-maker, hairdrier...). Breakfast is included and served in a modern cafeteria. Food selection is very wide, also including fresh fruits and juices, cakes and yoghurts.
I stayed on a Saturday night and could get an super-affordable rate via the hotel website: only 45 euro for a double room single use!
The only drawbak is that you really need a car (or you are willing to hire a taxi). I'd definitely stay here again next time I am in Reggio Emilia.
