We stayed at the residence Antico San Zeno for one night in July. This is certainly a charming place to stay in Verona. The standard of the room was quite high. It was clean, comfortable and well facilitated as was the bathroom also.
The location is great, it is in a quiter area, just a short walk via the river and the Castello to all of the central main attractions.
The breakfast left something to be desired. Star ratings are very subjective.

Overall, we could not fault the hotel, but this definitely was not a 4-star hotel according to some websites. The hotel was clean and presentable, although the photos on the websites look a lot better than real life. It is not a bad place to stay if all you are after is a place to go back to at night. Beds were comfortable, air-conditioning worked, bathroom was clean and breakfast was pretty basic, and no... not a 4-star. Price was on the high side for what we got and I would say the 3-star B&B we stayed at in Florence (we paid the same price) was better.
The staff could be a bit friendlier - they seemed like headmasters in boarding schools with their stern faces. They could definitely smile more.
The hotel is not too far from main tourist attractions such as the Castelvecchio (5 mins) or the Arena (10 mins). The San Zeno Maggiore is less than 5 mins away and is a must-see.
Verona is a beautiful city without the crowd that you typically see in larger Italian cities. Walking along the Adige River is a must especially during sunset. Food and wine is very good. Try the cafe opposite the Castelvecchio (called Via Roma 33). Local wines are also good, especially the irresistable Amerone.

Great Hotel, dont believe the negative comments

We stayed for 2 nights in August and had no problems at all. The reception staff were great - I had booked direct with the hotel and they arranged an airport transfer at a reasonable rate.
Our room was lovely, so spacious and very clean. Breakfast arrived exactly on time and was a typical continental offering. The shower was great, the towels actually fitted round us - unusual for hotel towels to be bigger than a postage stamp and the air conditioning helped at a warm time.
Reception came up trumps with a shared ride back to the airport when we left so we only had to pay half of the taxi rate - very thoughtful.
Although this residence isnt in the heart of Verona, its a 5 minute walk away and it gives you a feel for the real city - it was very easy to wak around. I will definately recommend this hotel to my friends, its not very often that you can get such a good size room, good service and your own breakfast, delivered!
