A Real Gem!

After dealing with the chaos of Catania's traffic, what a delight to turn into the courtyard of the centrally-located Hotel Royal. The hotel is a bit difficult to find due to a lack of city street signs - but once you get there, what a gem! The rooms are larger than one would expect in a European hotel, elegantly decorated - and come with such high-tech amenities as electronic curtain closers! The well-decorated bathrooms are also larger than you'd expect - and as a bonus, the showers are enclosed - no need to worry about splashing all over the place. Continental breakfast served on the hotel's glass-enclosed deck is included in the room rate and well-worth indulging in, if only for the pastries. If you happen to find yourself in Catania, you can't do much better than this.

We stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon. The hotel is great, good location, quirky rooms with detailed features, and small balcony. Breakfast is on terrace which is good quality.
Staff were excellent, always helpful
There is some noise from the terrace as they do host private events however we asked to be moved which they were more than happy to do.
The hotub was not working during our stay which was disappinting but the roof terrace was open for great views over catania and sunset views
Hotel has its own parking too which is always a plus in italy.

This is a lovely hotel, the staff are very helpful and friendly and the breakfast in the morning was good, especially the waitor who makes you fresh cappuccino!
The location is superb and the rooms are clean. However, our stay was marred by the extremely(!) loud music from the roof terrace parties at night, we were compensated for this with a free dinner but there was music most nights during our 1 wk stay (we gathered the noise only strongly affected our room as we were closest to the terrace).
The problem is that the hotel hosts private events on it's terrace which can be loud and go on very late with no regard for the guests.
Overall, the stay was pleasant but it was disturbed by the late night noise which affected our rest/sleeping.
We are a young couple (early 20s) but our advice would be not to stay in room Katane if you want to get some sleep as noise carries on until the early morning!

We stayed at the Hotel Royal for one night prior to flying back to Rome at the end of our two week Sicily adventure. Compared to the other hotels we booked during our holiday, this one was excellent.
Our room, Naxos, was very spacious with high ceilings. The decor truly feels as if you are staying in an 18th century mansion. The bathroom was large and had special touches such as a towel warmer. The rooms have some fancy details such as controlling the lighting and opening/closing of the curtains from a remote control. Our room had a new flat-screen TV, however it is too small for the size of the room. There is a little balcony which afforded us a view of Mt. Etna.
As we were on the last leg of our trip and feeling tired, we opted to try the hotel's restaurant for dinner. The restaurant is located on the hotel's terrace and although it is enclosed with glass, it was still rather chilly. The staff could not get the propane heaters to work. Worse than that, our waiter was not attentive and we were one of only two tables. Perhaps this was an off-night as other reviewers have praised the restaurant. Breakfast is served in the same spot and we had excellent service and the sun provided warmth in the morning.
Overall, we would definitely recommend this upscale hotel to anyone happening to need a room in Catania!
