me and my boyfriend stayed at the savoy hotel inrome in June for my 18th birthday and we both had the most fantastic time. the hotel staff looked after you the moment you wlked in and caried your cases to your room and made sure everything was ok before leaving you to your own devices. breakfast was really good and we had our last evening meal there in the roof top terrace and it was gorgeous - the best meal i have had for ages - no word of a lie. the rooms were kept immaculate and the beds were really comfy - NO BED BUGS AT ALL - the rooms were a decent size - not too big not too small and the air conditioning was heaven. the hotel was very handy for seeing all the sights and getting to the metroand checking out the restaurants and bars . could not fault one thing with this hotel and would recommend it one hundred percent to anybody stopping in rome.

Not a great choice for American travelers....

No frills here, and the staff was fairly ambivalent. It felt like an imposition every time we asked for assistance! There was one helpful front desk attendant - Titziana, but the rest were not. This was a very basic place to hang your hat and sleep at night. The beds were quite hard. The rooms, small. Bathroom, also small. It's not something you would like if you are accustomed to travel in the US. If you are considering going to Rome in the summer, think again. It was uncomfortably hot and the natives are rude. The line to get into mass with the Pope was a horrific nightmare.
Not that Great

Let me start my saying that I should have taken the advice from the May 23, 2008 posting. If you are American and like a good bed, this is not your hotel.
The Hotel Savoy was beautiful on the outside; but the room was very old (ex. TV from the 70's.. couldn't read the numbers on the remote and no alarm clocks and old carpets, including the thin linens and the bed itself was just bad and the Front Desk staff was not very friendly). We changed rooms 3 times to get a decent room. We should have just paid the extra to stay at another hotel. However, the Hotel location was good, as we went to a few cafes around the area. I will probably select a location alittle more central. FYI:The Vatican was amazing..can't wait to see it again. Note to Self: Need umbrella and bottled water when visiting St. Peter's Square because of Sun.

A little too far from the Spanish Steps and T. Fountain .These attractions were quite a long walk downhill from the hotel.
Would like to see a little more choice in cooked breakfast but the choice in pastries ect.. was good. Staff polite and helpful and were very willing to book trips. The tour bus stops opposite the hotel, which is a nice way to see Rome. Only wish that I had booked half board before my stay as Rome is very expensive. Would have liked to have bathrobes provided but the beds and cleanliness of the room v. good. Nice roof terrace.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights while on our honeymoon.
We booked our trip through a "go-today travel site".
DON'T stay here if you want to sleep. The bed mattresses are old, thin, and VERY hard. We asked the concierge if we could stay in a different room, and he said that all the beds were the same.
So we had to ask for 3 additional thick blankets to fold over and "pad" the bed with. We checked into changing our hotel, but because we were on a tight schedule, we had to "tough it out".
We have stayed at a lot of hotels in europe, and U.S.
But this one by far had the worst beds, especially for the price that we paid.
We recommend staying at Hotel Eden instead. It is located about 1 block the west of the Savoy. It is a more elegant hotel, AND it was cheeper by about 100 Euro at the time we inquired.
They did not include breakfast, but there is a cafe nearby (1 min. away) for that.
Cafe Lemo: The best Cappuccino!!! Better than Starbucks! 1.50 Euro! Best Price in Rome!
