Stayed 4 days on business trip. Simple hotel mostly used by business people; quite low key. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms clean and simply furnished but very hot and difficult to control the tempreature other than opening the window - not a great option in December. Free wifi was a great bonus. Consider the hotel really very good value overal. Try the resturant next door too, great food and service.

Fabulous Canon D'Oro

After searching the internet for where to go fairly near to Venice, we found the Hotel Canon D'Oro. Looking at the beautiful frescos (circa 15th/16th Century) on the entire face of the hotel we couldn't wait to see what the hotel looked like inside. Booking was easy and the hotel staff liaised with us by email promptly.
On arrival at the hotel, we were personally shown to our room by the receptionist. The hotel is very homely and comfortable. We noticed there were a lot of business people staying at the hotel and we thought it would feel like a home from home for them. The room was comfortable and clean, the staff (from the maids to the bar staff) were very friendly and polite and couldn't do enough to help us. The hotel gave lots of information where to go and what to do in the area.
Food at the hotel was fantastic. The buffet breakfast in the morning was superb with the best cappucino ever tasted! We woke in the morning to the smell of fresh bread baking. Bliss!
We ate in the hotel restaurant for dinner one evening and felt that we were being treated like royalty. There was a good selection of food for differing budgets and tastes and time constraints of the diner. We were greeted with a complimentary glass of chilled Prosecco and canapes before our order was taken and a sumptuous meal provided. There was a good choice of wines - especially ones from the region - that were very well-priced.
We would retire each evening in the bar for a glass of Amaretto. As time went on over the holiday, the measures got larger and larger! The attention shown to my 3 year old daughter during our stay was amazing - they would take her to the breakfast table each morning and wait for her to come downstairs or back to the hotel so they could keep coming out from behind reception to see her!
When we came to check out, we noticed the meal we had in the restaurant had not been charged. Unfortunately as I do not speak Italian well and our waiter didn't speak English well, my request to put our meal bill onto our hotel room bill didn't translate! We flagged this up and paid for it straight away. Later that night I had a call from reception to advise me that they were sending someone up with a little souvenir from Conegliano. I opened the door to find our friendly bar man holding a litre bottle of Amaretto as a thank you. How wonderful is that?
We went to Conegliano in October 2006 (early-mid month) and the weather was sunny and mild, sometimes even quite warm. The region is beautiful - if you can't get to Venice (which we didn't fit in) you will not be disappointed. Conegliano is a medieval town with plenty of places to eat and drink and good shopping. A lovely place, very chic, a great place to people watch.
Can't wait to go back!!
