My boyfriend and I recently spent a week in the hotel for the wedding of a family member. we were a group of 20 people of mixed ages including children and elderly family.
We could not give the hotel anything but praise. It is without a doubt the best hotel we have ever stayed in. These people who are finding fault with the hotel really do seem as if they have gone to the hotel looking for something to complain about. Yes the service in the resteraunt may have been a bit quick but it was always service with a smile and the food was beautiful.
Admittedly there were a few nights where I was a bit stuck not being a fish eater but that was easily compensated for with the wide variety of salad and other food on offer.
The hotel itself was beautiful. It didn't matter where you were in the hotel you were able to see the breathtaking views of sorrento and the surrounding area. We were especially happy as we had not requested a sea view room but the room we were given (room 924) had an amazing view. The pools were immaculatley clean...and there were plenty of sun beds to go round and a plentiful supply of towels from the lifeguard. I can't comment on the noise of childrren as we were travelling with children in our party and as it is a popular hotel for weddings it should be expected that children may be staying at the hotel...and as we know kids and water equals noise.....even the big kids!!!
The staff at the hotel were beyond helpful...no matter what your request was they would deal with it with a smile....and always very promplty.
With regard to the wedding and the staff helping we couldnt have asked for a better day. After the service at the cloisters in the town we arrived back at the hotel to be greeted by hotel staff who had provided us with bubbly and various hot and cold nibbles...which were well received after an afternoon in the sun in rather heavy dresses and hats!!!
After this we were escorted to the breakfast room which had been beautifully transformed for the purposes of the wedding.
The food for the wedding was beautiful as always and the staff waiting on us were exceptional, especially Guiseppe and luigi who were wonderful...ensuring everybody had what they needed....and keeping our glasses topped up!!!
We were then taken to the terrace which had again been made up beautifully with a variety of candles which made the view of sorrrento ( by now in darkenss) look even more spectacular.
this hotel and the staff have far surpassed our expectations in every way whether it be our stay at the hotel or their help with the wedding. everybody had a wonderful time....and we will all be back soon....hopefully!!!!

I stayed at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte in Sorrento for 2 weeks in july 2008 and found it to be an excellent hotel. Great facilities including 5 pools with stunning views across the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, free towels for the sunbeds around the pool areas, you get these from Enrico (the towel man). Great Lounge once again with amazing views of Vesuvius.
Rooms are of a very good standard, with a decent size bathroom and sleeping area. The Reception area is also good and the staff at Reception are always smiling and willing to help in anyway. I actually found all the staff hardworking, polite, helpful people.
The food is one of this hotels best selling points, every night you get a 3 course meal, with several choices for each course. While at the hotel i ate about 7 different kinds of fish, beef, pork, veal, caviar, various pasta dishes and some amazing cakes.
I only have one complaint to make and that is the price of the drinks in the rooms minibar, especially the water and soft drinks. The hotel were charging 7 euros for a small bottle of fizzy water that the shop across the street were selling for 80 cents. I expect to pay a bit extra for drinks from the minbar but the difference between the shop and the hotel is unbelievable.
Overall i would highly recommend the Grand Hotel Capodimonte to anybody looking to stay in Sorrento.

We have just returned from a week long holiday in Sorrento at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte. We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful hotel. The location was excellent, a very short easy walk into the centre of Sorrento and wonderful views of the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius from all the terrraces and both restaurants.
The food was excellent with a lot of choice from the menu for dinner which was served at your table by very pleasant waiters. The buffet breakfast offered a very wide range of food from fresh fruit and cereals to omelettes cooked to order by the chef in front of you. The evening meal consisted of 3 courses plus an extensive salad bar and my friend and I both found the portions very generous. In fact If I had a pasta dish as a starter I could never eat all of my main course and the desserts were delicious. The profiteroles in particular were gorgeous, full of fresh cream and covered in chocolate.
The bar and lounges were very comfortable and the decor was very tasteful. The evening entertainment on the outside terrace was very good and we had great fun dancing to the live music.
Our room faced the cliff but we had not paid for a sea view so were not disappointed. It was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped - I could have stayed there for a month. The only thing lacking were tea and coffee making facilities but we were aware of this before we went. As breakfast started at 7.00am we could easily wait till then for our early morning cuppa.
We also found all of the staff to be pleasant and helpful, from the porters and maids to the reception and waiters. Everything was very well organised on our departure day and even though we didnt leave for the airport until 3.00pm the time flew.
We did not find the prices of the drinks in the mini bar or in the resaurant and bar overly expensive for a hotel of this standard
and we both felt we got value for money. None of the other guests we made friends with had any complaints and all agreed with our opinions. We all felt we had picked the best hotel in the area, especially for its location. I can't wait to go back and I would definitely stay at the Capodimonte again and would recommend it to anyone.

Just returned from my 17th trip to this hotel, and alreadywe have booked again for next year. The staff are considerate and attentive, and the food and service in the restaurants above average. The drinks prices are a bit steep, but then the town centre - with numerous cafe's/bars is only a short walk away.
The views from the room balcony are just stunning, although I appreciate that not all rooms have such a good views. The sun terraces were not overcrowded, and there were more than enough sun beds to cater for everyone (Glad that the sun bed charge has now been abolished). The only gripe is a personal one - that if children are using the pool, the "lifeguard" should ensure that the rules are obeyed - ie: no inflatables allowed, and that jumping from the tiered pools forbidden - this is very dangerous for all concerned. I also think it a shame that the dress code isnt enforced at dinner (ie: no shorts) Most people make an effort, but then some never will.
Overall, a lovely relaxing and hugely enjoyable holiday, personally, this hotel is my second home..

I'm wondering if there are two Grand Hotel Capodimontes in Sorrento? People either seem to love it or hate it - we're in the former category.
Rooms - spotlessly clean, comfy bed, tv, safe (charge payable), fridge/minibar, and small balcony. Bathroom had hairdryer, complementary cosmetics (replenished daily) and again was spotless. If a view is important you'll need to pay for a seaview room, as otherwise you'll just look straight out at the side of the cliff. We didn't intend to spend much time inside so a view didn't bother us (all the public areas have fabulous views anyway).
Meals - this was the first time in years we've stayed half-board and frankly we were expecting to eat out in town for a couple of nights. However we were very pleased with the choice, quality and quantity of food and ended up eating in every night. There was generally a choice of about six things for starters (including pasta, soup, cold buffet), main course (fish, meat, veggie) and dessert (ice-cream, cheeseboard, gateaux). Best bit was the location of the restaurant - overlooking the bay of Naples. We managed to sit outside on the terrace every night and it was gorgeous. Waiting staff were friendly and helpful, and managed very efficiently by the head waiters. We only had to queue once when the hotel had a wedding reception into which all the best staff seemed to have been drafted - this was very annoying but I think weddings in Italy are an occupational hazard when you stay in the bigger hotels. Breakfasts were very good too - large cold buffet of breads, cereals, fruit, meats, cheeses, etc. and a hot buffet with a chef standing by to cook omelettes/eggs to order if required.
Pool area - Lovely pools with free loungers dotted around at different levels so it never felt over-crowded (towels are provided too). There's a poolside bar/restaurant but we only had drinks there.
Location is excellent. It's about a 10 minute walk into the town centre, 15 minutes to the train station, and 25 minutes to the harbour (all on level ground except for the steps or hill down to the harbour).
All in all, a very good hotel with excellent location for accessing public transport.
